5 weeks pregnant, boobs no longer sore?

Hi ladies,

So as of today I am exactly 5 weeks pregnant, just found out I was expecting on Friday. The whole of last week my boobs were extremely sore, and on Wednesday and Thursday night I was getting odd tingles in them, similar to what I felt whilst breastfeeding DD.

Then suddenly over the weekend the pain in my boobs has gradually disappeared! Surely it's far too early for the pain in my boobs to subside? In fact all of the symptoms I had last week, tiredness, spots on my chin etc, seem to be gradually dissapearing. Haven't had any cramping or bleeding though, but I've been reading stories of missed miscarriages and know you don't necessarily bleed or cramp when you lose a baby, I'm basically scaring myself silly

I am super paranoid that I'm going to have another miscarriage, I had one in April at around 6 weeks pregnant, so I just can't relax! Please reassure me! I have waited months for that BFP and want this baby so badly, can't help but feel it's all too good to be true

Without other symptoms it might be tricky, why don't you phone the hospital early pregnancy unit and ask for some advice. I do understand, have been in your situation. In those days it was a pregnancy test once you had missed two periods, no scans so repeat pregnancy tests( 5 days wait) until they were negative. Waiting is dire. Good luck hope its a false alarm

MrsDrambuie · 27/08/2018 14:03

Symptoms come and go, you have to try to relax (easier said than done, obviously).

Personally I had zero symptoms in the first 12 weeks (after 2 years of waiting for BFP, I was fully prepared to be sick every day and I would just be happy to be pregnant).

I couldn’t believe it until the 12-week scan.

As PP said, you could try calling your local Early Pregnancy Assessment Centre to see if there’s anything that they can offer you due to your history.

I would call the EPU, only I worry they're going to think I'm wasting their time and not really take me seriously as I'm not really having any symptoms of a miscarriage? (I.e bleeding or stomach pains) don't think I'm really going to be taken seriously.

Just called OH on his lunch break, he's hopefully getting out of work a bit earlier today as it's bank holiday, he said he'd pick up some pregnancy tests on the way home just so I can do them and compare them to my previous tests i did over the weekend to make sure the lines getting darker. If they look faint I will call the EPU!

I found my symptoms really went up and down - I had sore boobs at 5 weeks and then suddenly that disappeared over night and I didn't feel pregnant at all. Came back with a vengeance 2 days later and now at 6+6 they're killing me!

Momma22 · 27/08/2018 14:53

@RosiePosies thanks, I needed to hear a positive story.

Just to reassure me, anyone know what percentage of miscarriages are missed miscarriage? I.e. No bleeding or cramps? That's the thing that scares me most, getting to my 12 week scan with no outward signs I've even had a miscarriage then finding out I've lost the baby. Think I'm slightly reassured that I haven't had any bleeding or anything but suspicious of this loss of symptoms.

I just called my local health centre to see if I could speak to a midwife but unfortunately they're off due to the bank holiday, don't really want to go as far as calling the hospital, as logic tells me I'm probably fine and being a bit paranoid and this isn't serious enough to warrant a call to the hospital, and they'll probably think the same, but the crazy anxious side of my brain is thinking otherwise.

If I've had a previous miscarraige will I be routinely offered an early scan, especially if I explain how anxious I am, or will I have to book one privately?

It’s so difficult as there wouldn’t be much to see on a scan at 5 weeks so you’ll probably need to sit tight for a week either way. They might offer sequential hcg testing but possibly not without bleeding and pain.

I’ve had a missed miscarriage so understand your nervousness but equally in my successful pregnancy I had days where my symptoms subsided and then came back stronger. It’s a tough wait.

RosiePosies · 27/08/2018 15:22

I'm sure that you will be able to get a re--assurance scan due to your previous experience. I've read only 1% of pregnancies end in a missed miscarriage.

I would say though OP to wait for as long as you can to have a scan, i.e. get to 6 weeks, as in my experience it can be more stressful going for a scan and being told they can't find a heartbeat as it's too early, and then you have to go home and wait another week.

We've booked a scan for 8 weeks privately as once you see a heartbeat at that point there is a 98% chance of the pregnancy continuing.

Right so, I took another test.

The top 1 was taken Saturday morning with FMU, it's a 25mlu test

The bottom one about taken about an hour ago, this is a 20mlu test, I did notice my urine was more dilute with this test (I always pee in a cup when I do pregnancy tests)

I'd have thought even with dilute urine I'd have gotten a stronger line with a slightly more sensitive test 2 days later ...

I called the hospital the EPU are off for the bank holiday, but did speak to a midwife and explained the situation, she was very nice and understanding but didn't really give me any advice, just said that she'd arrange for the EPU to call me tommorow ...

5 weeks pregnant, boobs no longer sore?

I should say although I'm 5 weeks pregnant going by the date of my last period, I do have fairly long cycles, I am a maximum of about 2 days late on my period, if I'd have had a BFN I'd be counting this as CD 36, my longest cycle in the last few months was 34 days

Is the bottom one a Superdrug basic by any chance? If so- they are rubbish. The reviews here talk about very faint second lines:

www.superdrug.com/Health/Conception/Pregnancy-Tests/Superdrug-Pregnancy-Test-x-2/p/448305

Given your cycle lengths you could be as little as 16 dpo so I wouldn’t worry about faint lines at this stage.

Momma22 · 27/08/2018 19:37

@SaturdaySav it's a poundworld first vue one, I actually have a Superdrug one from my MC in April which I kept, I compared them and the test is basically exactly the same in every way! I would be 99.9% sure they are made by the same manufacturer.

I think exactly the same about me only being as little as 16dpo. I reckon if this is a sticky bean by the time I get to my 12 week scan I'll be told I'm actually only 11 weeks because of the length of my cycles not being taken into consideration.

I called a different hospital because I'm super paranoid as I said earlier 🙈 Just to get their take on things really. I was basically told there's no need for alarm unless I start bleeding, and the best thing to do is maybe ask my GP for a blood test tommorow morning to put my mind at ease.

I think in one of the reviews for Superdrug someone else says they are poundland tests so I’m sure you’re right. I was getting lines stronger than control lines with other tests but still faint lines on those if that makes you feel better.

At 4-5 weeks I was pretty worried about symptoms. I posted a thread about it on here. Then at about six weeks fatigue hit and I started feeling really rough and I’ve recently had a scan with all going well.

I can relate to feeling frustrated and wishing the days away but you’ll soon have a much better idea of what’s going on.

It’s not a positive attitude but sometimes I worry about having another miscarriage and think ‘oh well, I’d manage’. If you’re feeling resilient enough to say this to yourself at the moment I’d recommend giving it a go (I go up and down in resilience so I know it’s not always possible).

physicskate · 27/08/2018 20:04

I found the more tests I did, the more anxious I became. A positive test won't change the future outcome. Only time will tell. Try to chill out- go for a walk, do some yoga, ignore the situation. You need to try and control your anxiety a bit better, as you may be making the situation harder than it needs to be (and I do understand how difficult it is having by ttc for over two years and finally getting a sticky bean through ivf).

I've had two chemicals and was not offered early scans because of that, but because of the ivf.

Honestly, you will know in time whether you're still in with a shout, but for now, you are!!! Congrats!!! Try to enjoy it instead of tormenting yourself...

Momma22 · 28/08/2018 01:03

@SaturdaySauv I had a good read of all the reviews of the Superdrug tests and I'm feeling a bit more reassured. I would say they are the same as the Poundland ones without a shadow of a doubt! As one of the reviews talks about the test taking ages to register that you've actually used it, which is exactly what I experienced, I waited a good minute after dipping it in my pee for the dye to run up the test. The cheek of Superdrug charging £3.99 for a test that costs a quid at poundworld, and passing it off as their own brand!

I read at least 4 reviews talking of faint positives when other brands had given distinct positives on the same day. Maybe they are just dodgy tests? What's important is that I've had a total of 3 BFPs and no cramps or bleeding as of yet. So I'm going to try to be positive and happy Smile can't promise I won't pee on any more sticks though as I'm addicted!

Just praying the sore boobs return to make me feel a bit more pregnant than I currently feel
