Pins and Needles

I’m getting bad pins and needles and numbness in my hands, mostly little and ring finger and halfway down my arm. A bit weird feeling and very annoying. It happens a lot at night and wakes me up, but also randomly during the day.

I’m only 9+4 so it’s not swelling. I’ll mention it at my booking appointment but that isn’t for over a week as it fell when on holiday and I couldn’t get an earlier one.

Anybody else have experience of this? Google suggests Carpal Tunnel and I teach piano for a living so am obviously a little concerned.

I suffered terribly from carpal tunnel during both my pregnancies. It caused problems when I was asleep as I would constantly wake up with my wrists in agony. It was easily sorted by sleeping in splints at night. Ask for these at your next appointment. It completely disappeared quickly after giving birth, on both occasions.

I really sympathise with you op. I had this with carpal tunnel in my last pregnancy and it's awful. It kept me awake at night. I think I tried to find positions that lessened the tingling as much as I could.

Thanks, all. I’ll definitely mention it at my appointment, it’s just obviously a bit stressful with work. I didn’t have this with my last pregnancy. Not fun!

My GP was very helpful about carpal tunnel and this is what she said.
Although there's no cure as such there's stuff you can do to help and it should hopefully go after the pregnancy.
You've extra fluid when pregnant and it can get 'clogged' in your wrists so you need to try as much as possible to keep your hands straight out rather than bent at the wrists. It's at its peak at night time/ early morning as most of us bend our wrists under our pillow etc. She recommended getting wrist supports from the pharmacy- you know the kind of sporty material type when you sprain your wrist? Wear these every night (and during the day if you can) which i found eased it a fair bit

Brill, thanks. I’m on holiday from Tuesday and my appointment is when I get back so not too long to wait, at least.
