Induction or c section or none ?

Looking for abit of advice 😞
I'm 37+4 and had a meeting with the consultant today ... she said likely after my scan next week they will talk about induction / booked c section and that in all honestly the scan can look perfect and they will still do the same .

The problem is last time I was induced I hypo-stimulated ( never ending contraction) my son got stressed and my blood pressure went either dangerously high or low ( abit of a blur!) and I was rushed to theatre ...

I'm petrified of another c section since looking it up after my first and I'm abit more in the know !

But they will more then likely only break my waters and give me 2-4hrs to go into labour unlike mosts 24hrs before I go to theatre ...

Do I

  • have another pessary against doctors wishes and have it taken out as I know I need it out or do it myself ( previous midwife ignored me as she thought I was a drama queen ) so it was left in for hours after it should've !
  • waters broken and hope for the best
  • plan c section 😞
  • none of the above and refuse and wait for baby to come on his own

It's due to growth dropping slightly but still in a safe range and the consultant said it could potentially be completely wrong !

f I hope this makes sense I'm abit of a mess was really hoping for a VBAC But looks very unlikely now 😞

I know this is very long winded and I don't want to go against doctors advice but I went with it last time and they got it all wrong ? When in fact I knew my body best :(

I’m not quite clear from your post what the doctors are advising you to do, sorry.

I don’t think they will give you the pessaries when you have had a previous section because of the risk of uterine rupture. If you are really wanting to avoid a CS and your scan next week is ok then I would ask them if you can wait a little longer and see if you go into labour naturally and what the risks would be if you did that.

I’d be surprised is you’d be allowed another presery after 1st birth. You could ask for a balloon induction, where a balloon is inflated in order to dilate cervix & cause spontaneous labour- has to be removed after 24hrs.
Good luck

Hi I'm currently 32 weeks but I'm to be a VBAC birth this time. My last birth was an ELCS, my consultant and midwifes gave me a leaflet on it all and in depth discussion and under no circumstances will they use a pessary as its too risky with a uterine scar, there plan is to use a foley balloon & breaking of waters. Please talk to your consultant but there is no reason you can't have the VBAC you want. You need to have a clear idea on their plan so you can make the right decision on what is best for you x

I had a csection with my first and my second was very late. They offered an induction but when the consultant explained the risks I asked her what she would do in my shoes. She said she would have a c section. I decided whilst I wanted a VBAC I felt the risk was too great. I found my experience of c sections was very positive especially when I got my head round the idea.

Was told they prefer to use balloon method on low risk births :( and there's only 1midwife in my hospital trained now :( there was 2 but she just left x

Unfortunately it looks like your options are limited wish you all the best 💐

Elective sections can be really calm and positive experiences. You are less
exhausted and also prepared for what is going to happen. It can be very very different to the stress and panic of an emergency.

Obviously I am sure that you’ll follow medical advice - and hope that they give you all the info you need to make the right choice for you.

I just wanted to say (because I don’t think it is always said) - an ELCS can be an excellent experience. Mine (with DC2) was brilliant. DC1’s birth was absolutely horrendous and ended up with an EMCS after two days. DC2’s was a world away from that and was a calm, beautiful experience in which baby was brought safely into the world (at 38 weeks as there were problems that meant the section was brought forward as he needed to be for out) and I was treated with respect and dignity. There were medical indications right from the start that a VBAC really wasn’t wise in my case. Although a c section isn’t what I would have chosen in advance all things being equal honestly the ELCS was 100% the right decision for me and little one. If I have a third I would have an ELCS again.

If I was you I would go for an elective C-section.

That's because I know personally women who tried a VBAC after being convinced by midwives, and ended up having another emergency C-section as they were in the same situation as their first pregnancy.

I know it might sound dramatic and probably is .. I'm just petrified of dying and leaving my son :(

Of course you are scared of something awful happening. Birth is scary.
But you have done it before and you will again.
I’m not clear on why you have to do anything.
The baby has not grown as expected? What is the percentile drop?

Pickledgerkingsareathing · 24/08/2018 23:01

That's my growth chart x

Induction or c section or none ?

Personally I’d go for an elective. If they would only give you 2-4 hours after breaking your waters that really isn’t that long for things to get started. And if they do get started, I wouldn’t fancy an hour of contractions for them to turn around and say you’re not far along enough and then whisk you to theatre.
