Baby measuring large at 32 weeks

I've had a 32 week growth scan today and although I'm 32 weeks the baby is measuring at 35 weeks and approximately 4lb10oz. I've got to go back tomorrow for an urgent gestational diabetes test. The consultant explained that if the test is positive they will then discuss induction with me but didn't say how early this would be. She then went onto say if the test is negative that if baby continues to grow at the rate it is at the moment I'll probably be induced at 38 weeks. Does this mean that if it is down to diabetes the induction will be a lot sooner than 38 weeks? Has any else had or is having similar experience?
Also is there any chance that they have my dates wrong because right from the start from a 6 week scan me and my husband both though we were 2 weeks further a long than we are but obviously i don't want to be telling the Drs they are wrong with the dates lol. Slightly worried about how concerned the consultant seemed about the size of baby

My auntie was told she had pregnancy diabetes and my cousin would be big but she turned out to be a 5lber. The same with a couple of my friends. One of who was induced a month early and baby was also small. Obviously heath professionals know more than me but you and dp would probably know more about dates etc. Is good they have got you in tomorrow though so as much as worrying isn't nice...at least it may ease some of your worries. Definitely ask questions tomorrow if you want to! Hope it goes okay!

They seem to get the size wrong all the time to be honest. I wouldn't let myself be induced on the basis of size alone.

My baby's estimated weight at my 32 week scan on tuesday was 4lb 13oz. The consultant didn't say anything about that, I'm actually screening positive for potential growth restriction so they are pleased baby is still at a good weight gain. He is just above the middle centile on the graph. X

That doesn't sound huge to me OP, I'm having growth scans due to IUGR in a previous pregnancy and this baby was estimated at 4lb 14oz at 32 weeks which the consultant didn't comment on, he's tracking just over 50th centile. Is this a big baby for you, have you been pregnant before?

I am measuring off the chart now at term and have been teetering near the top since around week 32 (having extra scans purely for age policy in my area - 35+ Confused and not actually due to concern over the size).
Consultant is happy to leave me until 41 weeks and talk induction then, again this is policy and not size related. Baby is estimated to be 9.5lbs roughly

You don’t have to be induced early and I’d certainly avoid it if it was purely based on size - I am negative for GD btw, perhaps if I was positive I’d think about induction but I’d definitely be doing some research first.

I am measuring over the 90th centile. My child is humongous and believe me i am struggling at 36 weeks now.

I dont have GD luckily! I have had regular growth scans and she is just getting bigger and bigger. My consultant wont agree to induce me like the hospital told me would happen. My consultant explained they dont tend to worry about big babies as much as small.

So it really does come down to yourself and your consultant.. remember bigger babies are suppose to hurt less too (i am hoping).

But if they were to induce you, they would never do this before 37 weeks as that is then considered full termx

With my second I was measuring ahead the entire pregnancy. I had to have a GTT anyway at 28 weeks due to other factors. I then had to have another 2 or 3 because I was measuring ahead. I also had a couple of growth scans. All my GTT's were OK and they simply put it down to big baby. He was born at 38 weeks and was 8.5lbs (because of pre-eclampsia, not diabetes!) . So yeh, he was big! Eldest was 9lbs when he was born.

I doubt they will induce you before 38 weeks. I had my elective section with youngest booked for 39 weeks. I then ended up in hospital with him due to the pre-eclampsia at 37 weeks but they wouldn't consider the section until 38 weeks.

That doesn't sound particularly big to me. I had a growth scan at 33 weeks and he was estimated to be 4lbs 8oz which was very average so try not to worry

StarfishSandwich · 25/08/2018 06:22

Mine was estimated at just shy of 5lbs at 32 weeks and I was plotting on the 70th centile. No GD concerns. Are you particularly petite?

octoberfarm · 25/08/2018 06:24

My first measured 5lbs something at his 32 week scan, and our second measured bang on at about 5lbs. Our first was born at 39.5 weeks, weighing in at 7lbs 14oz (so not small but not huge) and our second arrived 4 weeks early weighing in at 7lbs 3oz.

I'm in the US, where they automatically test for Gestational Diabetes, so they weren't worried about that with me, but neither time did anyone seem concerned about their weight, it was just sort of not really discussed. Obviously our second son was a decent size, even though he popped out early, but our first was quite normal, and no early delivery was needed. We were told there was like a 2lb margin for error with weight predictions at that stage, so try not to worry too much Smile

That being said, if you do really think the dates might be wrong, I'd definitely say something so that they have all the information before deciding how to move forward. Good luck!

ER1992 · 25/08/2018 07:06

Thanks everyone hopefully it's all just normal procedure. This is my 1st baby so they have no previous history to go by. I was a small baby myself but my husband was around 8lb when he was born but they don't seem to take this into consideration. I'm size 10 about 5ft 3 and have a normal bmi. It just sounded to me like whatever happens with the results that either way baby would be coming early by induction. I'm wondering if they are saying induction at 38 weeks because if baby is measuring still 3 weeks ahead he or she will be measuring at 40+1 then and the won't let me get to 40 weeks because it'll be 40+3 which is technically way overdue
