Which car seat?!

I've been looking online at car seats for newborns and after hours of reading reviews I thought I'd decided on the Joie I-level which last from birth up to approx 12 Months.
Now DH says we should get scar seat that last from birth up to 3/4 years old!

What are the pros / cons of getting a seat that last longer (apart from the cost).

I feel like I'm back at square one 🙄

The longer lasting seats can actually be too big for newborns. Some people like to be able to put their car seat on the pram chassis (not great for shorties like me!).

It also depends whether you want your seat to be able to fit into a travel system/pram chassis. If so, you need to pick your travel system/pram first and then figure out which seats are compatible with it. If you go this route, the seat you get can only be the kind that lasts about 12 months.

We had a joie gemm to start with and now have a joie every stage. The advantage of the i-Level is that you can take it in and out of the car easily (especially if you get the base unit) and you can fit it onto a travel system. This is great for if baby is asleep in it, also makes it easier to fasten baby in, as you don't have to be leaning into the car to do it. With something that lasts up to 4 years it stays fixed in the car, so you have to get the baby in and out each time.

I'd get an infant carrier personally, they often last longer than 12 months unless baby is really tall. Then after the carrier is outgrown go for an extended rear facing seat that will last until ~4 years.

Thank you, I do want to be able to remove the baby in the car seat so back to Tyrone I wanted :)

We have a Kiddy Evoluna i-Size
www.kiddyuk.com/infant-carriers/evo-luna-i-size

For lots of reasons but mainly the better position for baby in the car or on the pushchair base. The which Best Buy award in the year we bought it. Plus they work with the Lullaby Trust.

The downside is that it’s bigger than many other infant carriers but otherwise I can’t fault it.

They have a newer model out now which is a lot more expensive www.kiddyuk.com/infant-carriers/evo-luna-i-size-2

I’d recommend an infant carrier initially and then once you work out how tall/heavy baby is likely to be come roughly 4yo then buy your next seat. I’m looking to get a 25kg rear facing seat rather than an 18kg one for DD as she will reach 18kg before 4 so would then either have to buy a 25kg anyway or be faced with the prospect of putting a four year old into a high backed booster. The seats which go from birth to 18/25kg can often be still too large for newborns or often they don’t provide the recline they need. Infant carriers are usually a better bet especially if you want to be able to remove it if they fall asleep in the car!
