Rapid violent juddery movements 36 weeks

I'm 36 weeks pregnant and have a really active little one, moves and wiggles about all day every day. Every now and again it has what feels like a little fit where it moves its little limbs really quickly, judders and my bump goes crazy. It only lasts a few seconds but freaks me out a bit.
Has anyone else experienced this? Could the baby be having a fit in there?

Could it be hiccups? I used to feel something not dissimilar and we saw hiccups on the ultrasound. It depends how long it goes on for I guess?

I had this a few weeks ago and was worried. Was reassured everything was normal by the midwife. I'm now 38 weeks and it's calmed down a lot. X

No...little one gets hiccups every day and that is very rhythmic and localised to one place. This is completely different! My whole bump shakes like crazy Confused

I thought that was hiccups too!

cuckoocuckoos · 22/08/2018 18:13

I'd get checked by your midwife.

mintich · 22/08/2018 18:14

I had that with my last pregnancy! Used to worry that she was panicking but midwife said all was normal.

Marriageoftrueminds · 22/08/2018 18:19

I’ve been having exactly this and I’m 35 weeks. I phoned midwife and they said it’s totally normal. It feels like he’s having a fit in there! But apparently they only worry about reduced movement, not increased 😂

newtlover · 22/08/2018 18:20

go and get checked out

OutPinked · 22/08/2018 18:47

You should have any change in movements checked out. Not just reduced but sudden rapid movements can also be a sign something is wrong. Not to scare you because I’m sure everything is absolutely fine but them’s the guidelines Smile.

Sorry I don't want to frighten you but I'd be getting checked ASAP. Like right now.

SharpLily · 22/08/2018 18:55

Get it checked. It's probably nothing but it happened to me. They monitored the baby's heart rate and kept losing it, cue an emergency C-section and it turned out the cord was wrapped twice around her neck. The frantic movements were her 'panicking' apparently.

GnTplease · 22/08/2018 19:33

Thank you everyone. I did mention it briefly to my midwife who didn't seem concerned. She checked heart rate and all was fine (but baby was it's usual self then). It's not happening a lot, maybe once a week for 15-20 seconds. I have a scan coming up in next couple of days so will ask them to check the cord etc then as well. It's hard when you're a first time mum to know what is normal and when to worry.

I had this 3 or 4 times in my last pregnancy and it freaked me out, only way I could describe it was feeling like baby was having a seizure. The first time it happened was the night before my wedding, at 32 weeks, and I was really stressed, so I was particularly concerned that something was wrong. But midwives were not concerned, and my daughter was/is absolutely fine. I've seen other people comment on it here too. Although that's not to say don't get checked out if you're worried. Incidentally, DD was a very active baby in general in utero and is one of the most high energy children I have come across! The baby I am carrying now has been completely different, slower and quieter, never wakes me at night pummelling me like DD did, and has never moved like that.

GnTplease · 28/08/2018 12:27

Just a quick update. Spoke to my midwife and had a scan. Baby is perfectly healthy and happy and snowing no signs of distress. Apparently it's very normal, especially if you have a very active baby! Although always worth getting checked. Thanks to everyone for the advice
