To Early to Shop?

I'm 11 weeks pregnant with my first baby. I had an early scan last week after a bleed, and baby had a strong heart beat and was moving, so I've been told that everything is fine.
I don't want to jinx anything, but I've seen a few small bits and pieces I'd love for the baby. Is it too soon to start picking things up? I don't mean big items like a cot or pushchair, just cute clothes and the like. I'm not the type who will only buy pink or blue things based on a babies gender, so I'm not fussed that I don't know what I'm having yet.
When did other people start shopping?

I’m 22 weeks and have bought a sleepsuit! Each to their own though.

peachesarenom · 22/08/2018 15:44

Yeah go for it! I did!

I'm 11 weeks and 4 days, went shopping with my mam last Friday and was so desperate to buy a few cute bits, mam was too but my dad has banned bed until 20 week scan booooo. Mother in law has bought stuff already. Not had a scan yet, that's next week, just want to get excited and giddy about it too x go for it what's the harm!

It’s impossible to jinx anything by buying things. If it makes you feel good, do it.

I didn’t buy anything until after 20 weeks, but had presents for Christmas at 16ish weeks and from an old friend as soon as I told him.

I had some early bleeding this time round and have found things much more stressful. I’ll probably buy something after my first scan if all is well, just so I can enjoy the pregnancy a bit.

I started buying things at 6 weeks. Just cute little sleepsuits, things that I liked that were in the sales, etc. It made it feel more real for me, as I had no symptoms or anything.

SoyDora · 22/08/2018 15:50

Oh and there’s no such thing as ‘jinxing’ things either. That would imply that if people buy things early then miscarry that it’s potentially their fault, which obviously it isn’t!

EssentialHummus · 22/08/2018 15:55

16 weeks or so? The first time Gap had a sale after I found out I was expecting Grin.

GrumbleBumble · 22/08/2018 16:00

No such thing as jinxing but there is such a thing as having to deal with the things you have if the worst happens. Having to either store or dispose of things that were bought for a baby you have lost in the days following a miscarriage could be a very painful experience.

Stephisaur · 22/08/2018 16:01

We bought something after our first scan at 11ish weeks.

We can’t help ourselves 😂 I saw someone post the other day to say that if they did lose the baby, they would just donate anything they’d bought to help others.

You can’t jinx it by buying things though :) x

BlueBug45 · 22/08/2018 16:21

You won't jinx anything however you will get upset if you lose the baby and have to get rid of stuff/store stuff away. I would wait until you are further along for your own emotional well-being.

Liz3891 · 22/08/2018 17:35

There's no such thing as jinxing obviously, but think about your 20 week scan and how you would feel seeing baby stuff at home if you get bad news at the scan. If you think you'll be fine, go for it!

I think I was a little hesitant to buy things like clothes or toys early on but we did buy the nursery furniture around 16 weeks because we found a good deal and a pram around the same time. My mum brought loads from a very early stage but questioned why we had brought our pram already, thinking it was bad luck to have it in the house. There's nothing wrong with buying things if you want to - it helps to make it feel more real and lets you enjoy pregnancy - it doesn't last forever so you should enjoy it!
