Morning Sickness Shopping List

Please no ginger! Hate it!

With DS1, I was sick about 6/7 times a day until 20 weeks, then once a week then on. For personal reasons, I didn't take medication last time. But this time, I'm not planning on being so heroic. However, I would like to try and see if I can keep it under control before it really kicks in or before I try medication.

So,
Ice poles are top of the list so far... that's about it.

Any ideas?

BRAT is always good to follow after bouts of sickness. Bananas, Rice, Apples, Toast.

I had hypermesis and the rare times I could eat I always found salt n vinegar crisps, pineapple pieces, rice krispes and plain crackers helped.

The only things that helped me were rich tea biscuits as soon as I woke up, a diet of mainly carbs and sweets I could suck, and eating little but often. I couldn't let myself get even slightly hungry.

Milk also made it worse so could only have dried cereal, no cups of tea etc.

Another vote for salt & vinegar crisps & Diet Coke. Plus all the carbs. Got me through my first pregnancy and most of this one - still being sick at 30 weeks, but it's getting better!
I find eating little and often helps too. Hunger makes it so much worse!

All that helped me was mints. Lots and lots of mints. I couldn’t have survived without.

Plum tomatoes, grapes, ham and cheddar cheese. I’m still very nauseous at 32 weeks! I find smoothies and juice helpful as water is too “thin” and I bring it back up instantly!

I was going to say a mallet for any fucker who asks ‘have you tried ginger?’ Two whacks for HCPs holding your notes that detail your hyperemesis. Grin

I found freezing the grapes to be a total lifesaver. Also ritz crackers.

Roast chicken pieces, the ones ready cooked - I couldn't cope with raw meat or the smell of the fridge until i was 30 weeks!

Oranges too, but only proper oranges. Tangerines and satsumas came back instantly 🙄

Anything orange for me....actual oranges, carrots, orange juice, sunny D, orange fruit pastels...

Oh and also salt and vinegar Pringles!

Have kept up the orange thing with cravings 🙈

theruffles · 22/08/2018 20:57

Fruit, rich tea biscuits, cashew nuts and salt and vinegar crisps were the only things that worked for me! I also brought some Seabands which helped to take the edge off the nausea.

Small disposable spoons! I lived on long-life chocolate soy milk puddings and Activia strawberrry yoghurt for weeks. I found the texture a lot easier to swallow than crackers or pretzels (didn't seem to have enough saliva for chewing and it always felt it like was getting stuck in my throat).

I was so knackered though that I didn't have the energy to constantly wash and clean up spoons. Buying picnic packs of teaspoons was a godsend...you can just eat and toss it in the trash afterwards!

Other lifesavers in first tri were fennel tea, slightly sweet rice cakes, salted crisps, bananas & plain chicken & rice.

I did a food shop online last night and used this thread as a base - great idea OP 👍🏻 now to try and fit a thousand ice lollies in my tiny freezer....

donna474 · 29/08/2018 20:24

Ready salted hula hoops or salted pretzel sticks when I feel nauseous in my stomach (if that makes sense) and a Starburst sweet when my mouth feels sick (like that horrible hangover feeling in your mouth when you've had too many rums)
