Awful Period Pains in Early Pregnancy

Hi there! I saw a thread on this already but havent been able to find anything on the amount of pain.

I realise that cramping is normal (Im about 6 weeks with my first!) now but I just had a period-like-pain so painful it just woke me up.

My actual periods dont hurt me enough to wake me! Not in years anyway.

It eased off after about 5 minutes and I checked for blood and dont see any (havent spotted at all but I've already been told its okay if I do) but I'm just concerned that severe pain could mean I'm losing them...

Hi @VixenAndCub - I have been experiencing this also (I'm 5 + 3). I also had some spotting so went along to the GP who said both light spotting and cramping is fine. He said if it becomes acute then to go to A&E. I was quite worried yest as the cramps were pretty bad in the morn when I was at work, but then totally eased off in the afternoon. I have read that cramping in early pregnancy can be due to the uterus growing/stretching. So personally I'm really hoping it's down to that but I'm just keeping an eye on it. x

I'm not an expert by any means so do check with GP/midwife but I remember having terrible cramps with DD. I didn't get period pain usually so I was really worried. She's now a happy, healthy 4 year old. Best wishes for your pregnancy x

My worst cramps were at 6 weeks (one woke me up too, which was unusual!)

I took no blood to be a good sign, and bub is currently very happy in there having a right wriggle!

Always worth checking with the GP/midwife if it is worrying you though xx

I had them for weeks and weeks during my first trimester when I didn't usually get them. Doctor said if there's no bleeding then it's fine and normal. I'm now 24+2 so all was ok
