Colostrum and FF

I have a GTT tomorrow as growth scan last week showed AC measurement on 90th percentile. It is recommended that mums with gestational diabetes harvest colostrum before birth and feed to the baby as it helps with maintaining their blood sugar levels.

I plan to formula feed. Has anyone fed harvested and fed colostrum alongside FF? How did it work? Is it difficult to do? Did you feed the colostrum in between regular bottle feeds?

Sorry for all the questions!

If you harvest enough colostrum pre delivery you won't need to formula feed until that runs out. Colostrum is better for regulating blood sugar immediately after birth than formula and obviously contains all the other good stuff do if you are comfortable doing it then you may as well. You can start formula feeding as soon as the ore-harvested colostrum runs out.

Aim for 6 or 8 2ml syringe fuls for the first day.

Are you set on ff? I found breastmilk much better when I had GD and meant we could leave hospital much sooner. Just a thought?

Can I just pop in and say scans can be very off.
Very recent experience. I was told something was wrong with my baby due to him being so big etc. I had him yesterday and hes perfect in every way.
Nothing wrong with him thankfully.

They just said oh some scans are wrong.
That was 2 weeks worth of worrying. Not worth it.

Good luck

@Sandstormbrewing thanks for the info! Very helpful.

@faeriequeen Yes I'm set on FF. Have tried BF, not for me. Am having an ELCS so will need to stay in anyway

@LostMyBaubles I'm hoping that's the case for me. I don't have any other symptoms (sugar in urine etc) and I don't hit any of the risk categories, it's solely based on this measurement. Just gathering information and preparing as much as I can in case it does come back positive.
