Hi there,

I'm 39 weeks and at my midwife appointment this morning, I was referred to the hospital because baby is measuring at 37 weeks and I show signs of pre eclampsia.

Anyway, fast forward and I'm now on the induction ward waiting to be induced. I am absolutely terrified. I don't know why - I guess I just wasn't mentally prepared and am so scared of the pain that an induction brings. My entire body is shaking - I really didn't realise how much I hadn't mentally prepared for labour.

I guess I'm looking for a hand hold/some positive stories.

Thanks Flowers

Wow, that's a quick turnaround - no wonder you feel in shock!

Wishing you all the luck in the world with your labour. You are in the best place you can be, getting the care you need, and after this process you are going to have a little baby to look after. Nothing in the world will ever feel so important or amazing in your life. Something amazing to look forward to. Take any pain relief that you need to and keep going. We can't predict how your labour will turn out, but you also can't control it. I know many people who has very straightforward labours, even after induction, myself included. I hope you are one of them.

Good luck again! Let us know how it goes!

Oh I've been where you are - twice!

My first induction was looong. But mostly boring, until things really got going. Then I had an epidural and kept falling asleep.

Second induction was super quick - I actually loved it, and would do it again if I could.

If your BP is high you'll probably be encouraged to have an epidural once things get started. Until that point, I used my TENS machine and had a long bath on the ward with my favourite book.

You'll be grand. Get someone to bring you nice food, magazines, hand cream and cosy slippers. Good luck! You're going to meet your baby in the next day or so - I know it's very scary and unknown, but this is the beginning of something amazing, too.

I don't have experience of being induced but i will be this time (32 weeks with #4) with my second child i was 40+4 and sent to hospital for reduced movements within 50 minutes she was born in the triage room so i didn't even have time to process i was in labour and then delivered but having my baby none of that mattered. Discuss pain relief with them in regards to the pain but try not too worry. Baby is better out than in if they have decided to induce and it just means you get to cuddle baby sooner. I think even if you were prepared for today you would still be scared its only natural. Good luck you will do brilliantly mother nature will take over and give you the strength! X

Hi didn't just want to read and run. But I have been induced twice with mine. And I never realised that it was suppose to be more daunting then giving birth natural. Both of mine were pretty fast once I'd had pessary inserted I had baby early hours off morning. And I am terrible with pain so I'm sure if I can get through it you can too. I'm actually more petrified this time round of going into labour on my own and not being started off lol. Fear of the unknown haha

You got this! Just think of all the amazing intricate work your body has done growing a whole tiny human - it can do this next bit too! :D

Baby arrived this morning at 6:26am with me on my knees, screaming my wee head off. Got morphine which didn't kick in until baby came out. Had third degree rectum tear and labia laceration but apart from that babe and I are doing well. So in love ♥️

Thank you so much for your kind words of encouragement.

Congratulations and well done - your baby is beautiful!

JeanieLouToo · 23/08/2018 08:49

WOW! Congratulations! What a beauty - and well done you. I had the same injuries as you afterwards - the hour of stitches was worse than my actual labour! Hopefully the morphine kicked in for that part for you. I am completely recovered now and everything works as normal, even if it took a few months. Obviously it's worth it!

Hope you have a lovely time bonding for the next few days and make a super speedy recovery!
