Help am will be 16wks this week and started a new job 2months ago. My work don’t know am pregnant and is stressing me out. Pls when should I inform them and how. Am scared of not passing my probation or treat me differently if I tell them. I really worked hard and I have given my best in the job. I never knew I was pregnant 🤰 when I applied for the job. I find out 2 weeks after the interview that I was 5-6 weeks gone and already accepted the job. Pls someone help me, is stressing me out.

Hi! I had exactly the same concerns as you. I didn't know I was pregnant when I interviewed and accepted the job, I had my booking in app during my induction training week so I had to ask my new employer for a few hours off due to that.
I was honest about it and (I'm a big apologiser anyway) so said that I'm sorry this has happened, I wasn't aware of my pregnancy when I accepted the job etc. They can't fire you or anything like that because you are pregnant as it's illegal which is why I tried not to worry too much about it.
I sent my ward sister an email requesting the time off and therefore revealing the pregnancy that way but I wasn't in daily contact with her at that point. If I was I would probably ask to have a chat and speak face to face. It's really important they hear it from you and not through your colleagues though.
Don't worry about it, it's not as bad as it feels like it's going to be honestly! 😊 good luck!

Legally you don't have to inform your employer until 15 weeks before you're due but they obviously don't have to give you any time off for ante natal appointments or make any H&S adjustments until they know. As emma911030 said, they can't legally dismiss you for being pregnant as this would be sex discrimination.

It's going to be hard to conceal it for much longer.

If you’ve been getting any feedback via email including praise or encouragement, I’d keep that for my own records to show you were meeting expectations before they knew about the pregnancy.

That is only a precaution though- any HR rep or manager worth their salt would know that it’s a false economy to discriminate against a pregnant woman, and not worth the expense, time and hassle of a potential tribunal.
