Dealing with nausea

9 weeks pregnant and the nausea has just hit. Not actually being sick but it’s like an awful hangover, constant feeling of nausea and foggyness that only subsided if I lie still in one place.

Any advice for managing this? I’ve got a 22 month old so no chance of being still!

Breathing exercises.

Ice lollies (lots of them).

Try your very best to eat little and often and bland foods. If you just have to eat chips for a while then so be it. A bit of unhealthy food is better than none.

TRY AND EAT IRON RICH FOODS! I cannot stress this enough. I ended up with hb levels through the floor because I was so sick a nobody told me that keeping my iron levels up was so important in pregnancy. My GP told me that many women take folic acid with ironin their first trimester, but nobody suggests that once they stop, they continue with iron supplements. Completely up to you, but I wish someone would have recommended this to me.

If you have a partner, please try and stress to them how bad you feel and how much help you might need in the first trimester. I know you only have a few weeks left until trimester 2 but I burnt myself out and didn't ask for help (throwing up in between and ended up in hospital).

Look after yourself. Thanks

I'm 6 weeks on Tuesday and dreading the MS that I am sure is about to hit me sideways. It's already pretty bad but I know will get worse.

I have been taking Vit B6 in preparation as have heard it can do wonders. If you get really bad I would suggest talking to your GP about an antihistamine called cetirizine - my next move.

In regards to 22 month old I would prescribe Cbeebies whilst you lie on the sofa if possible.

I totally sympathise OP. I'm 7 weeks pregnant and have a 16m old and I feel like I'm dying. This whole weekend has been spent on the sofa/ in the bathroom. Nothing's helping me feel better, so no advice really, except just to ask for as much help as you can. My husband has been doing most of the parenting while I throw up and nap. If you've got someone who can help out definitely ask them. I hope you feel better.

It’s difficult to gain much help/sympathy because I’m not actually being sick.

DS has watched way too much TV these last few days and got 2 more weeks before I go back to work.

I had sickness until I was 20 weeks and I found the best way for me to manage it was to snack regularly, as it was much worse if I felt hungry. So I would just graze rather than have set meals. Ginger beer (fizzy pop not alcohol) also kept the nausea at bay. I hope yours doesn't last as long!

See your GP and ask for some anti emetics. There are quite a few you can get now, and you don't have to be vomiting dozens of times to get them.
