Hi

I’ve just found out I’m pregnant a very big surprise as I’m on birth control. But I’m 40 and now terrified that I won’t have a healthy baby. I’m beside myself with worry. I really don’t know what to do Confused

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

@Fuls , I did have several miscarriages at 8 weeks when I was 42 so my main worry this time was miscarrying. It wasn't whether I'd cope . As a poster above says, best not to plan too much until you see a healthy 12 week scan. But I don't mean to sound negative, the chances are all willl be fine. I hope it all goes well for you! Xxxx

Thank you again. So if my calculations are right I’ll be due in April. Looks like I’m going to have a fun summer Grin

OP my mum had me when she was 42. I'm now having a baby - my first - in a couple of weeks at 43. My sister had her first even older than that.

Some of my family and friends in health care work/have worked with expectant mothers and/or babies, and are use to women being any age from teenage to early 50s with babies conceived both naturally and through IVF. They are/have been aware they actually have to ask the mother how the baby was conceived and not presume anything due to age unless the mother is young.

As a PP said you may find some young health care professionals shocked by older mothers - I had an optician who was shocked last year when I stated the age of my parents when I was born - but most won't batter an eyelid.
