Well, not quite arse ache, but pain in the area I've highlighted on a helpful visual aid Grin

So I'm 11 weeks and yesterday noticed I was having pain in the area I've drawn. It's not cramping nor constant, just the sharp achiness you normally get when you've pulled a muscle.

It's worse when bending over or putting weight on my right leg, though I can still walk fine (though I've noticed my right knee has buckled a few times and I've nearly gone arse over elbow Grin Related?). If I'm standing still or sitting it doesn't hurt.

I was twisting quite a lot at work yesterday so perhaps that was it? It's not the dreaded SPD already is it? Shock

Thanks! Smile

Would help if I posted the picture Grin

I've also noticed I can hear/feel my hip/pelvis grinding when I walk Blush

It's like the area I got pain in when I had sciatica, but that tends to send a shooting pain down your leg. Do you have that? Someone else might know about SPD!

DippyDiplodocus · 19/08/2018 13:08

It sounds like sciatica OP. I had both sciatica AND SPD during my pregnancy.

My SPD was more like fanny daggers, sharp shooting pains in the front bum and sciatica basically as you described and in the same place. It was often worse if I bent over the bath, I'd get a sharp shooting pain in the lower back and arse cheek area.

The joys of pregnancy.

@kiwiblue, yes! I get the pain radiating down to my leg as well.

Oof @Dippy, that sounds awful!

Ok, so I had sciatica before pregnancy and was worried it would return in pregnancy- it was actually one of my first symptoms. I was lucky though, it didn't really come back.

I'd recommend seeing a physio. I saw a women's physio when pregnant- our hospital actually ran group sessions for women with back pain in pregnancy. I could tell you all the stretches I did pre pregnancy that really help with sciatica but as you are pregnant you'll need to be careful. Maybe try a gentle stretch of that hamstring. Sitting and reaching for your toe can be a good position. Or lying on back and holding leg straight up and pulling towards you very gently.

Ultimately you'll need to make sure you have good posture and try to hold in your core as much as possible. Hope you can see a physio soon.

piriformis syndrome

Gives the exact same pain as sciatica as it's squishing the same nerve.
I left mine a while and let me tell you it only gets worse! Happens around 9-14 wks if preg due to the relaxin hormone.
Go to see a physio, they will pin and stretch it and give you stretches to do at home.
At my worse I was needing to be in these stretch positions nearly all evening, hardly gave it now.

If you google piriformis syndrome there are lots of stretches you can do xx
