Tiredness in third trimester... I'm a zombie!

Anyone else feel as, if not more exhausted in their third trimester than their first? Suddenly I feel sleepy, can barely keep my eyes open, completely zombie like. Anyone else feel the same in trimester three?

I'm exactly the same! Im so tired it's unreal xx

kirinm · 17/08/2018 14:42

When I hit 37 weeks I suddenly felt absolutely shattered and I'm desperate need of naps.

Eden80 · 17/08/2018 14:55

I have been exhausted right through only at 20 weeks and struggling to cope with work and two kids - I have really bad SPD too and feel like I should be in bed now for next 20 - want to cry.

BlueBug45 · 17/08/2018 14:58

I'm currently lying in bed. Smile

Least I only have 3 more weeks to go.

BertieBotts · 17/08/2018 14:59

Ask your midwife to check your iron levels, or start taking an iron supplement. It can be normal to have an energy drop in the third trimester, but it's also common to be iron deficient and it will help a lot if you can top this up :)

Eden80 · 17/08/2018 15:07

I hadn’t thought of that actually but this feels way too exhausting for ‘normal’ - gosh I wish I was not had a few weeks left- my husband is working away next month don’t know how I will cope. Is this your first?

usernotfound0000 · 17/08/2018 15:17

Seconding getting your iron levels checked, tiredness is normal but I wouldn't say it was to the point of exhaustion.

itallhappensforareason · 17/08/2018 15:27

To be honest I have been shattered throughout 😴 but definitely felt more tired around the 35 week mark. I think because I had finished up from work my body knew I had some time to rest and switch off.

TTEA · 17/08/2018 15:33

I'm only 28 weeks! Still got a bit left to go. Feel like I'm in trimester one again.

It's my first baby, so not sure what's normal or not. I did find out my hb is low but not dangerously so. Low enough for them to say no to MLU though! Picking up ferrous sulphate tonight so this may well be it. Didn't think it was as it's not massively low. Doc said it was 10.3...

Yep. Just coming up to 30 weeks but sleeping really badly with back pain and DRAGGING myself through the days at the moment...

BlueBug45 · 17/08/2018 15:47

You need to go to your GP to get your iron levels checked not your midwife. Make an on the day emergency appointment on Monday and describe being competely knackered. Some GPs will also check for other things.

@Eden80 yes my first. However as I 40+ I'm not allowed to go over 40 weeks. I do have other things that could complicate delivery but age is the main reason I have an induction date.

TTEA · 17/08/2018 15:50

@BlueBug45 I've had my iron levels checked, by my midwife who just did some bloods for me. She was able and happy to do this and told me that it doesn't need to be done by a GP?

I've got some iron tablets waiting for me at the pharmacy! My levels are 10.3 which isn't mega low, so didn't think this was low enough for me to feel so exhausted!

Hats off - I am 38 and this pregnancy is so much harder than my first ten years ago! I couldn’t do this again - it’s exhausting. Glad I commented anyway as GP calling me for a consultation in next half an hour.

BlueBug45 · 17/08/2018 16:08

@TTEA lots of midwives don't do blood tests except at the prescribed times, and if they do do them they can take ages to return the test results.

Also remember you are pregnant so even if you have ever been anaemic before pregnancy it won't be the same.

TTEA · 17/08/2018 16:12

@BlueBug45 fair enough, I must be lucky with my midwife! To be fair I'm consultant led and am seeing my midwife in a hospital as opposed to at my GP so whether this makes a difference I don't know!

Fingers crossed it is because I'm anaemic and hopefully these tablets will sort me out! Feel absolutely horrendous.

I e just spoken to my GP who has ordered bloods but has prescribed iron to n the mean time as test in June from midwife I was at the very low end iron wise. I am so glad I commented here today and hoping it works as I feel like death.

OutPinked · 17/08/2018 16:45

I was about to suggest iron too but see your levels are normal. I would still advise taking iron regardless, it can’t harm. It’s normal to be tired but not exhausted unless you have a particularly strenuous job and are on your feet none stop.

TTEA · 17/08/2018 16:49

@Eden80 best of luck!

OP posts:
TTEA · 17/08/2018 16:49

@OutPinked they're actually just below normal so I've been prescribed iron as they're likely to drop again!

itallhappensforareason · 18/08/2018 12:59

@TTEA I was prescribed iron tablets too. My levels were ok but they had dropped since my first blood test so midwife said it wouldn't harm to top it up. The tablets made me feel awful - had a horrible sore tummy and felt sick. I switched to taking Spatone liquid iron mixed with orange juice which is much kinder. Just something to keep in mind if you have any troubles.

Emelene · 18/08/2018 15:50

I'm 28 +5 and have spent most of today in bed! No idea what's hit me as I've felt pretty good so far but I'm trying to rest up this weekend and hope it shifts. You're not alone. Smile
