Steroids for elective section post 37 weeks?

Hi, I'm just wondering has anyone had steroids for an elective section post 37 weeks?

I'll be 37+3 weeks and I'm having it because of obstetric cholestasis.

It seems slightly unusual as best practice elsewhere appears to be only for pre 37 week births.

Are there any downsides for the baby in getting the steroids?

I was told this, natural labour is different for the lungs than c section. Think they squeeze all the gunk out on the way through birth canal usually. So I was told c section before 39 weeks requires steroids to help lungs. It sounded bizarre to me too.

I had it for my daughter at 38 plus 4 as they said anything before 39 as the benefits outweigh the risks , I’m getting them again his time for my section at 37 plus 4

No risks to baby and just single injections to mother which are no problem , much better than risking a problem with the babies lungs

That's good to hear. I was just perplexed as lots of places it seems to only be for pre 37 week babies. I'll be so happy when this baby is out!
