Blood pressure and urine test results

Hi ladies,

I'm 31 weeks tomorrow with my second baby. The past few weeks I've been extremely exhausted and just constantly needing to sleep. I've had occasional dizzy spells which really take it out of me.
This week I had a check up at the hospital to check baby movements and they done the usual test. I've been looking at my notes and I'm concerned they never explained anything to me as it seems my urine test has come up with something and my blood pressure is higher then normal. Do I need to be worried?
I've put on a lot of weight which I regret not taking better care of myself. Could I have diabetes?

RESULTS
Blood pressure - 140/90
Urine - other->+ ket, ++ Leuc

Thanks in advance for any advice or stories shared.

What is your normal BP?

I would speak to someone about your BP and ask when you should have that re checked as it is on the upper limits of normal and could be indicating pre eclampsia. Do you have any other symptoms?

Did urine show protein?

I would speak to midwife or GP - leucocytes could indicate infection.

I hope I haven't worried you. Everything may well be fine. I would want a follow up to check that everything was stable though rather than leave it.

Ketones and leukocytes in urine usually mean dehydration! Make sure you're drinking plenty especially in the hot weather!

Your blood pressure is borderline. Can be caused by anxiety, rushing about, generally being in hospital. Ask your midwife for another check if jts very different to your normal but mine was that all the way through and no one was worried!

Thank you for getting back to me,

I feel really nervous something is wrong.
Back in June my blood pressure at the hospital was 120/58.
But at most midwife appointments I'm been at 110/65.

It doesn't say that protein was found in my urine, and I don't have a swollen feet, hands etc so I don't think I have any other signs towards pre-eclampsia.

Baby is movement absolutely fine, I have feel absolutely awful with the exhaustion.

Ok so BP is slightly higher than your normal. Maybe phone GP or midwife tomorrow and ask their advice?

I have quite a low threshold in regards to pre eclampsia though. I had it in both pregnancies and in my first I was left with symptoms for a long time - bp 150/90 and protein in urine - and just feeling "off". It was only after I felt unwell one night and phoned the labour ward and mentioned I had put on nearly a stone in a week that we realised how ill I was. BP by then was 200/110. So I do get twitchy about it.

I think they should definitely be monitoring your BP, just to see what way it is going.

Random dizziness is a sign of iron deficiency anaemia. And while you are suppose to be tired in the 3rd trimester you shoudn't be absolutely exhausted.

I suggest tomorrow you make an emergency on the day appointment with your GP and say you are suffering from dizzy spells and are absolutely exhausted so think you may have iron deficiency anaemia. Your GP should then sent you for blood tests.

A midwife cannot order the test unless it is at a prescribed interval it has to be a GP or other doctor. Lots of hospitals are poor at returning 28 week blood test results in a timely fashion, and even if they are returned on time you could still get anaemic afterwards.

While you are there ask your GP to recheck your blood pressure saying it was high yesterday (or whenever you were tested).

Ok, so I think i shall call my surgery tomorrow and talk through how I've been feeling.
Last week I had a midwife app and I explained to her how I had been feeling and she suggested I tried liquid iron, which I brought and except from making me feel sick of made no difference to how I felt.
She checked my blood results which had been taken the week previous and my iron levels were normal.
Should I be concerned about diabetes?

Thank you x

If you had diabetes they would've found sugar in your urine and had you tested. I had gestational diabetes from 12 weeks. Your urine tests were simular to mine and I was told possibly dehydration. I was constantly in day assessment cause I have high blood pressure which eventually developed into pre-eclampsia. Btw, I never really had protein in my urine or swollen ankles but my blood pressure did rise, eventually reaching 178/122...My new record 😌 You should ask for a blood pressure profile if it is higher than it normally is for you. That will rule out white collar readings (temporary high bp due to anxiety of being at the doctors). Ask as well about pre-eclampsia without protein cause I was in hospital for 2 weeks with it then induced at 35 weeks cause they couldn't control my bp and no protein was ever found x

What other signs relate to pre-eclampsia? I've been getting a lot of headaches lately and get really breathless even just standing on the spot washing up.
I'm always tired and as I said before I get dizzy spells/feel really week.
I guess if my urine sample indicates I'm hydrated, all these things I'm feeling are related to that?

Can't stop worrying, I have a midwife appointment next week.

Thank you everyone for your replies x

Your BP on this occasion is borderline hypertensive. Not crazily so, but something to be monitored, especially as your previous BP reading at other times have been within a normal range.

Ketones, as others have said could be indicative of dehydration, but also dietary issues, for example not having enough carbohydrates. Going into ketosis itself can make someone feel pretty rotten. Leukocytes, especially ++ would certainly mean a UTI, so I'd make an appointment with your GP. UTI's are so common in pregnancy and they can make you feel like shit!
