It’s not for a while yet but what can I do to entertain myself during the test? It sounds like a lot of waiting.

Does everyone have to have it or just people with a high BMI (mines just over 30 atm)

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I had mine this week. It was a lot of waiting around but I just took a book and was fine. I had it due to family history rather than bmi

ElinorOliphantIsCompletelyFine · 16/08/2018 15:43

I had it due to family history (my mum and nan) .

I went in at 9, had a sugary drink, and had to wait around for 2 hours. I had a book and some music to entertain myself.

The worst bit was the fasting for 12 hours beforehand!!!!

Thegirlhasnoname · 16/08/2018 15:50

I took a book when I had mine but there were other ladies in the waiting room with magazines, headphones on watching movie on tablet and one had even brought a colouring book!

usernotfound0000 · 16/08/2018 16:15

I had it last week due to family history. Take a good book would be my advice.

OutPinked · 16/08/2018 16:27

I had it because all of my babies have been large (despite testing negative in those pregnancies too...) I don’t have it this time either. It always makes me feel sick and weak half way through the test, I hate it. I took a book and my phone to scroll through MN Grin.

Flamingo19 · 16/08/2018 16:28

It actually does go a lot quicker than you think it will. I had mine the other day, but a magazine and a phone should keep you occupied!

myotherbagisgucci · 16/08/2018 17:03

I downloaded House of Cards on Netflix and just sat and watched them back to back on the IPad with my headphones on.

Eminybob · 16/08/2018 17:13

I have mine next week (due to bmi of 32)
Do they give you a bed or private room, or do you just have to sit in the waiting room? (I’m guessing this varies by hospital though)

MinisterforCheekyFuckery · 16/08/2018 17:32

I had one a few weeks ago. I just took my Kindle, it was fine. I don't have a high BMI but baby is measuring big which is why they did the test.

MinisterforCheekyFuckery · 16/08/2018 17:34

Do they give you a bed or private room, or do you just have to sit in the waiting room?

Just sat in a very busy waiting room with loads of other women who were having the same test. I wouldn't imagine many hospitals have enough beds for everyone needing a GTT to have their own cubicle/room.

Eminybob · 16/08/2018 17:50

I suspected as much. Would have been nice to have a lie down, I don’t often get 2 hours rest!

ProseccoPoppy · 16/08/2018 17:53

I had a late test (30 weeks plus) with both DC due to measuring quite a bit larger than dates both times. Turns out I have quite big babies. With DC1 (large city type hospital) I had to sit in the waiting room so spent the time on my laptop. The second time (rural cottage hospital) I was allowed to go home, provided I drove home rather walking and promised not to do much. I went home and worked from home before going back into hospital.

Honeybee79 · 16/08/2018 18:13

Had mine yesterday! I don't have a high BMI but my first baby was really big so they tested me in my second pregnancy (all clear) and this, my third (all clear). It is a 2 hour wait. Ensure you have a book or magazines as there was no mobile reception on the ward I was on so my plans to do some work were scuppered.

Honeybee79 · 16/08/2018 18:14

Also - I was told to stay on the ward and not move about other than to the loo as it's, a resting test.
