Hi all,

Just found out I'm pregnant with baby #1 after I've been trying for a few months :) yay!!

I've took a couple of clear blue tests and they say I'm 2-3 weeks. What do I do next? Do I need to tell my doctor? Or wait until I'm further along?

Thanks xx

Congratulations!
It entirely depends on your area, in my area (and 2 others I’ve lived in while pregnant) you don’t see your GP, you just call the surgery and self refer to the midwife. Booking in appointments with the midwife are usually done at around 8-10 weeks and they’ll book your scan with the hospital.
It my be different where you are so my advice would be to call your GP surgery, tell them you’re pregnant and ask what to do next!

Congrats OP! I'm a few weeks ahead of you so can give a little advice. I went to see my GP - she didn't do much other than check my blood pressure and give me a few leaflets. She asked if I'd decided which hospital to be referred to (obviously not!)! So I did some googling and let her know a few days later. I got my referral through the post a week or so later with dates for my booking apt (last week) and the 12 week scan (mid sept).

Other than that it's just sit back and wait xxx

Congratulations Smile. I would contact your doctor surgery and let the receptionist know so that she can book you in with the midwife. It's been a while since I had a baby (mine are now 9 and 12!) but I believe you don't see the midwife until around 8 weeks pregnant unless there are any history of concerns.
The doctors will then leave out a pack for you to collect with lots of paperwork in for you to fill out to bring to your first appointment (assuming you are in England, I have never been pg anywhere else!). Enjoy this 'secret time' as people will overload you with opinions on how to look after yourself as soon as they find out Thanks

I’ve never been left paperwork to fill in prior to the appointment, it was all done with the midwife during the booking appointment (which lasts about an hour and is pretty dull in my area!)

Thanks all for the amazing advice!! :) much appreciated will take it all on.

And thanks so much for the congratulations, I don't think it will sink in for a while :)

Do you guys still excersise as normal? I don't do anything too strenuous, just light cardio and light weights a few times a week?

And I'll look up a list of do's and donts too.

Thanks all :)

I was able to self refer online for my booking appointment, so have a google for your area. I think the general rule is you can continue doing any exercise you have been doing for at least a year, but don’t introduce anything new (and don’t feel guilty if you can’t do anything other than survive in a few weeks time!)

Mandalaface · 18/08/2018 08:29

What next? Tiredness, puking and worry for at least 8 weeks! Or that's how it feels to me now (I'm 8.5 weeks and have felt rough from before I even missed my period)

I didn't need to go to my GP- I could self refer to maternity services and then received my first booking appointment at 10 weeks by email. If you go on your local maternity hospital webpage, there is most likely a phone number or email address where you self-refer and then they will contact you. The first appointment is just a 'how are you?' and a form filling exercise really. You will get a scan appointment when you are there too, then your next appointment will be around 16wks.

Congratulations Becca124. I had my booking in appointment yesterday and the midwife said to continue exercising as normal (i go to the gym and swim). I also played in a badminton tournament today. I am finding the exercise harder though as I am getting so tired! I saw my doctor when i found out I was pregnant but she just gave me the number to phone the midwife to make the first appointment x
