Hi so I was on the Sayana Press injection for 9 months . The 13 weeks ran out on the 5th . 10 days Prior to it running out I started taking the pill . I'm constantly feeling sickand vomiting a lot ,really sore boobs, lots of abdominal cramping, heart burn (not normal for me),crazy mood swings and I wouldn't say peeing more but definitely have a stronger urge to go as soon as I need to go if that makes sense . Last week I done a pregnancy test and it was negative but I feel my symptoms are a sign I'm pregnant. My boyfriend would really not be happy about this at all he's clearly expressed that fact. There's not much information on the Sayana Press as it's fairly new . I'd really appreciate some opinions Confused

Sayana is a lower dose version of Depo and the pill is sometimes prescribed on top of Depo to control bleeding. I've never heard of that combination affecting the efficiency of the contracpetion, otherwise surely they wouldn't prescribe it?

I did also feel really awful as the Depo hormones left my system so that could be what's happening here combined with the hormonal changes from starting the pill?

I haven't experienced any bleeding at all since coming of the injection. I'm just abit worries with the symptoms I have . The doctor said to start the pill when the injection ran out but I wanted to make sure I would be covered but now I'm abit panicked as I'm unsure of the effects

No bleeding yet is quite normal so I wouldn't worry about that. I think it's probably just hormonal changes not pregnancy, but you could phone your GP and ask for a phone appointment to start off with just to ask their opinion?

Was starting the pill before the injection ran out done under medical advice? I'm not a doctor or pharmacist but my first guess as an "educated layperson" would be that your hormones are in fluxes due to double-dosing on the hormones which would cause all sorts of chaos in your system - more menopause-like than pregnancy but the symptoms can be similar. I would think that things will settle down after a few days but speak to your pharmacist who is more of a specialist on the interactions between different drugs than your average GP.

Cross-post above - so to clarify your Dr told you to start on the 5th but you decided to ignore that and start it 10 days early. I don't think that was a good plan but you probably haven't done yourself long-term harm. Do check with a pharmacist though.

I live in Northern Ireland and my boyfriend lives in Scotland currently.we see each other at least once a month but with it being the summer holidays I've been hear like 6-7 weeks now . I don't go home till the end of the month but if I was to register with a doctors over hear I'd have to tell him so he could drive me to the doctor. We already have a strained sex life as he's petrified he'll get me pregnant because of drama he's went through with his ex . So I can't talk to him about this cause it would completely freak him . I'm more laid back about having another baby but I understand his reasons . I'm really wore about my heath right now and a baby at this moment in time would be devastating for him . No point having a baby if he's not ready . I really feel convinced I'm pregnant but I do hope it's just side affects but I'm really struggling with them and want them to go away Sad

No the pill won’t cancel the injection out. It’s actually advisable to start the oral pill before your depo or Sayana “runs out” to provide continual cover.

If you’ve started the combined pill then the symptoms you’re having are probably due to the oestrogen and should settle down.

argumentativefeminist · 13/08/2018 21:23

You could just go to a pharmacist and they'll be able to give you advice in a private room, you don't necessarily need to see a GP unless the pharmacist has concerns. Just tell him you're going to the shops or you have thrush or something!

missmummy2 · 13/08/2018 21:23

Yea I started it earlier but I wasn't advised not to

The injection is progesterone only.
The pill is progesterone and possibly oestrogen.
No, they can’t cancel each other out but they can send your hormone levels bonkers.

SoyDora · 14/08/2018 08:44

No, they can’t cancel each other out but the double dose of hormones could cause all the symptoms you’re describing.
