Hi ladies
I'm due to be induced tomorrow, I've been told it can be a lengthy process and I wasn't sure what to wear to go in? Do you get changed into pjs or take day clothes to wear until you go into labour? I know it's probably stupid but it's stressing me out a bit!

Hi I went in wearing tshirt and trousers and stayed in them until I was at the pushing stage (only 2 hrs later)

It doesn't really matter! Something comfy and bottoms that are easy to whip off for exams/pessary insertion and removal, etc. Mine took 4 days and I think I spent a lot of time in a nightie with leggings under, and a cardigan/hoodie/dressing gown on top. Save a feeding/skin-to-skin-friendly outfit (e.g. shirt style nightie) for when you're in the later stages of labour/giving birth.

I had leggings and a vest on. They had to keep checking my progress so I changed into my nighty.

Hyppolyta · 13/08/2018 14:05

I wore comfy leggings, and a huge checked nightshirt, that could pass as a top.

Actually I wore that same outfit for several weeks before and after the birth Blush but it was easy to feed, sleep and nip to the shops in!

Anything you want as long as you are comfy. Leggings, trackies or pyjama bottoms with a big t shirt are all good.

ApolloandDaphne · 13/08/2018 14:07

Also make sure you have a change of bottoms in case your waters break as you wander about.

Fab thank you. I don't know why this worried me so much!

I went in wearing my clothes (but being so huge by then it was soft jersey joggers/yoga pants and a long t-shirt) and stayed in that during the day as they encourage you to walk around the hospital after a pessary so I wanted to be dressed.

I changed into a nightie when I went down to delivery suite for the drip about 7pm, and stayed in that until I had a shower after baby was born the next day.

I'd put nightclothes on once you're on the drip regardless of the time of day a once you're on that you're pretty immobile and so you want to be comfy!

I wore a loose cotton maxi dress and took harem pants/pyjama bottoms and vests.
Comfy stuff in case it’s a long time hanging around and comfy shoes in case you want to do a lot of walking to try and get things moving!

It was hotter than the sun on the labour ward so light layers were good.

I'm also getting induced tomorrow! Good luck Smile hope it's quick for you.
This is my second induction, when I was induced with my son in 2008 it was also August, so hotter than hell in the hospital. I just wore joggers and a vest I think, until I was actually in labour and then I wore a nightie. This time I'm going to go in wearing a maxi dress (cool, and easy to pull up for exams) but also have nighties for later on.

Almostthere15 · 13/08/2018 15:23

Thank you pretty - hope the same for you. My other labours have started at home and so I didn't have the warning and that's what started me over thinking I'm sure!

I went in normal clothes and changed into PJs when contractions started (pretty much immediately after insertion of the pessary - worked quick for me). Stood up shortly after and my waters went so I just stayed in PJ vest top and knickers after that.

Mothercare do various colours of soft yoga pants, which I wore in. Easy to pull on and off for examinations, but don’t look like pyjama bottoms.

They are fantastic- I got a pair for my SIL when she was pregnant a few months after me, which she repurchased in the other colour-ways as they were so comfy.

Normal clothes for hospital stay, hospital gown for the birth. Had waters broken with both mine and it's a messy, messy business! Fabulous birth both times though. Good luck and if they can't get the cannula in your hand feel free to ask for someone else to do it. Most painful part of the whole process.
