Pram & pushchair recommendations - silver cross?

Stillmonday · 12/08/2018 17:36

I'm looking for a pram which also has a pushchair attachment for later on. I intend to use the carrycot for the first 6 months so want to be able to switch to the pushchair after.

I like the look of silver cross. Anyone have any experience of this one or something that compares?

I also like the look of silvercross... But it's not top of the list. For me it's uppababy, Vista or Cruz.

We've got a bugaboo cameleon which we love

ReginaPhalange89 · 12/08/2018 18:30

I have an Oyster and it's fab. Carrycot was Great , 16 months now still using the pushchair which can parent face or face forward. It folds quite small too , easy to push .

Have a silver cross pioneer and love it. Ds is 20 months and still use it all the time, baby no.2 due imminent,y and planning to use it for her when she arrives

We were on the verge of buying the Pioneer when we decided to test the Mamas and Papas Ocarro and found it a lot more practical.

dinosaurkisses · 12/08/2018 22:01

We have a Wayfarer- it’s a solid pram which fits easily in the back of my polo. It’s great quality, with leather handles and the fabric of the hood etc is lovely. The carrycot is safe for overnight sleeping with a memory foam mattress and very cosy.

It’s better as a urban pram- we unexpectedly moved to a rural area when I was nine months pregnant, and the wheels have definitely taken a bashing on country walks.

It’s a good all rounder- the reason I chose it was because I worked with a girl who had just moved from sales in an independent nursery store and she recommended it saying that she’d never had anyone regret buying it.

enbh · 12/08/2018 22:05

I second the wayfarer... absolutely lovely and great quality!

Carrotmama · 12/08/2018 22:05

Another vote for silver cross pioneer. V similar to wayfarer, has all same benefits as wayfarer given above.

When I got mine the whole pioneer travel system (chassis, carrycot, pushchair and car seat) was on offer at John Lewis for £795 which made it the cheapest at the time as well. Love my silver cross pioneer and it will defo still be great for any future dcs to come.

dinosaurkisses · 12/08/2018 22:30

Another thing!

I’m looking to get a double at the moment and was talking to a saleswoman in another pram shop about having to shift my Wayfarer. She asked what one I had, and I mentioned I had a special edition one from Mothercare with a different fabric and leather colour.

She said that Silver Crosses hold their value well for selling on because of the name and the fact they can take a beating, and if you advertise that it’s a “special edition” it’ll do even better. A quick look on my local Facebook marketplace confirmed what she was saying (she also had no vested interest- her store doesn’t sell our model).

We have a pioneer and love it, really sturdy and well built. Suitable for different stages and has a huge basket which can pack pretty much everything you would need for a day out or a medium sized shop. We’ve used it pretty much every day for my 15 month old and it’s still in great condition, will be using it for the next one. The one and only problem I would say it has is that th front wheels sometimes get caught easily on curbs or raised paving slabs etc but it’s easily fixed with a lift of the front end

Manctart · 13/08/2018 08:47

Another vote for the wayfarer! I have had quite a few people in the street tell me how nice they think it is. The only thing I would say is that I don’t find it folds away very small, we have to have the carrycot in the front seat (I have a Ford Fiesta and the boot isn’t huge so it might be ok in other cars). It doesn’t bother us but if you have other children it could be a problem xx

SunshineSnowflakesDaydreams · 13/08/2018 09:16

We have the Wave, that goes from single to tandem. And we love it. As does our son. When we put him in it the first time in the shop you could see on his face how comfortable he thought it was! Currently pregnant with second so haven't used it as a double yet but really thrilled with it so far.

Italianshark · 13/08/2018 12:29

We are getting an egg stroller... they are fantastic xx

Merrz · 13/08/2018 15:40

Sorry OP jumping on your thread. I'm between the Silver Cross Pioneer and iCandy Peach All Terrain. Anyone got the iCandy?

njr1895 · 13/08/2018 22:26

We have the SC Pioneer - due in 5 weeks and can’t wait to use it! Managed to get a fab deal on an ex display one, in the colour we (I) wanted from Mothercare 👍🏽

Carrotmama · 14/08/2018 10:32

@Merrz I fancied the icandy too but when I added up the cost of all the bits sold separately for the icandy the silver cross pioneer deal was loads better value. Check out what's included re chassis/ carrycot/car seat/ pushchair etc

HanSpan1 · 14/08/2018 10:41

We have the Icandy Peach (2018 model),
Its a cery nice travel system, we chose it over the Silver Cross because the storage area underneath is considerably bigger on the icandy than the SC, and easier to get to...

The only downside was my DH didnt like building it as he said it was very fiddly putting it together.

Carrotmama · 16/08/2018 09:55

A drawback of pioneer is that when you are using the carry cot top you can hardly get to the storage underneath. I ended up taking the carrycot off most times I needed stuff in/out of the storage. Loads easier once you're using the pushchair seat.

Fionz · 18/08/2018 02:53

I have the silver cross Brompton special edition (pioneer with special edition fabric). I love the look of it, it is georgous but can be a pain to take apart to put in the car. The mama's and pappas occaro was more practical as it folds down without having to take apart. Nearly bought the wayfarer but it got rubbish reviews for it's wheels so went for the pioneer type as the wheels are bigger and more sturdier. Nearly bought the Wave too but felt it was just way too heavy!! Silver cross car seat doesn't fit in my car so bought the i-size pebble plus maxi cosy car seat with adapters for the silver cross chassis. Anyone else find the silver cross car seats an awkward shape and just not designed for new babies?? My daughter hates hers (We got it free with the pram).

happymummy12345 · 18/08/2018 03:20

For me it was always going to be silver cross. We got the pioneer because we couldn't afford and didn't have room for a balmoral it seemed the best one.
It was great. Ds was too tall for it at 2 and a half really. And the handle was ruined, plus we had an issue with one of the wheels, it kept veering off. We never got it serviced as ds was too old for it. But I'm sure a service could have resolved the issue.
We will most likely get another in the future. Love all the matching accessories as well, we had them all so it all matched.

KathyBates · 18/08/2018 04:46

Can't really comment on silver cross- avoided them after too much negative feedback. It took me ages to make a decision in the end but I eventually went with the cybex priam, the other contenders were the M&P ocarro and Oyster. If you're near/ have time I recommend going to one of the big baby shows that have all their demo models and the tracks. I was pretty shocked at how bad the icandys and eggs felt to handle considering their price tag!

Ohhbollix · 18/08/2018 05:00

I hated the Silver Cross we had. Oyster Max or iCandy were amazing though

stripeytshirt77 · 18/08/2018 05:37

Love our silver cross wave. Been extremely happy with it.

Stringofpearls · 18/08/2018 05:38

We have the Jane crosswalk matrix and are so impressed with it! It's really easy to use, baby can lie flat or be upright in the car, which is safer for journeys long than an hour. It also looks super comfy and she sleeps really well in it when travelling about. I can't recommend it enough, although it is pricey, probably a touch less than Silver Cross though. It also comes with a mattress so when we visit family we don't need a separate travel cot at the moment, which can be quite handy.

newdaylight · 18/08/2018 05:55

Really liked the Mosey Easywalker
