Bounty / baby clubs / freebies

Is this worth being involved with and, if so, when?

I am 14 weeks so probably a bit early but I’m at that stage where I am in second trimester, had a scan, so feeling I can start looking forward a bit more.

A friend of mine mentioned it and said she avoided it but I can’t remember why. Might have been something about them spamming you with info so not worth the odd freebie and other benefits you get.

There seem to be a lot of ads purporting to offer freebies and support to new mums and mums-to-be...

They do spam. You get little freebies but nothing you probably won't buy anyway.

Emmas diary have sold people’s details on its in the news i wouldn’t go near them

ReginaPhalange89 · 12/08/2018 17:24

The bounty packs are all just leaflets and samples of things like non bio washing liquid, tiny bottles of sudocrem, one or two pampers nappies.

Not really anything exciting!

Bowlofbabelfish · 12/08/2018 17:28

Bounty are hideous and should be banned - they come onto hospital wards and harass new mums. You can tell them no and you do NOT need to get child benefit forms from them!

All the freebie packs from these companies are crap. Emma’s diary just got a reprimand for selling user data as well.

Avoid, avoid avoid!

sparkles212 · 12/08/2018 17:34

I wish I hadn't bothered, no freebie has been worth the amount of cold calls I've had since from utility companies ranging from early morning until sometimes 8/9 at night.

AliceRR · 12/08/2018 17:38

Thanks ladies. I will avoid!

Make sure NO BOUNTY is on your notes and discuss with midwife as well. They are not beyond waltzing into closed curtained cubicles - they have some serious brass neck. Despicable people.

AliceRR · 12/08/2018 20:04

Interesting. No one saying it is worthwhile then! 🤔

For what they do and give you it’s a waste of time

SirHubzALot · 12/08/2018 20:43

Who is Bounty and what do they want?

surreygirl1987 · 13/08/2018 00:00

I wish I hadn't bothered too. If you DO, make sure you don't give your phone number, and give a 'junk' email address. The Bounty pack had a few bits and bobs but not a lot really considering the amount they hassle you afterwards. Emma's Diary is the worst though - DEFINITELY avoid them!!

BlueBug45 · 13/08/2018 01:21

Some maternity hospitals now don't allow Bounty reps in and don't give away their stuff due to the backlash against them that started a few years ago. Their packs are rubbish and only contain very small/a couple of samples of each item.

Emma's Diary has better packs and since the the GDPR you can opt-out of certain bits of how they can use your data. However they still sell your details on - there is a list of organisations/companies on their website - and have they been caught breaking data protection regulations particularly in selling details to a political party.

With all these things try not to give a phone number and if you have to don't give a real one, plus don't use your main email address.

I signed up to Emma’s diary and got the free packs a couple of weeks ago. One of the packs came with a 24 pack of newborn pampers. I use reusable nappies but plan on taking those to the hospital so it’s saved me £££ there, not complaining. The rest of it was just tat though...
