If your income drops then yes. But it also includes your partners earnings if you live together.

Put in the the calculator what your income will be not what it is now.

I very much doubt it as you'll still be employed. You'll just have to go back to work when you run out of money like the rest of us

You are eligible for statutory maternity pay (SMP) and any enhanced maternity pay your employer gives you if any. I suggest you contact your HR department and ask them what maternity/parental leave package applies.

If you are self-employed and don't pay class 1 NIC, or haven't been in your job long then you are eligible for maternity allowance (MA).

The gov.uk website has details on the amounts of SMP and MA.

It is also worth sharing your parental leave if your OH gets a better parental leave package. Research has shown men who take parental leave are more engaged in their children and families in general e.g. less likely to divorce.

As a PP stated if you run out of money you just have to return to work like everyone else.

BlueBug45 · 09/08/2018 18:02

Apologies I just remembered your OH may not be male.

TheHalfBloodPrincess · 09/08/2018 18:04

You should be entitled to working and child tax credits when you’re money drops down to SMP. Or universal credit if your area has it rolled out.

KathrynOfArrogance · 09/08/2018 18:09

I've been through this recently as currently on maternity
I worked 50 hours per week
OH works 46 hours per week
We are entitled to....
£20 odd child benefit and nothing else!
Apart from my mat allowance. X

You'll still be classed as employed so you won't be entitled any additional benefits. If you have a well paid job can't you save money up monthly before you go on maternity so you can pay some rent/bills while off?

RedBlu · 09/08/2018 18:30

Nope, you most likely won't be entitled to anything.

I received SMP for the last couple of months of my maternity leave and I wasn't entitled to anything (I checked!) To bring in a bit more money I used holiday at the beginning and end of my maternity leave so I got full pay for those days, plus did Keeping in Touch Days during the months I only got SMP (which received full days pay).

You also should start trying to save up some money to see you through the months when you won't be earning as much.

lapenguin · 09/08/2018 18:38

You might be entitled to tax credits/universal credit, depending On DPs income. You won't be paying childcare and depends on whether you rent or not.

SleepyMcEdie · 09/08/2018 18:41

If you work in quite a well paid job why haven’t you saved money to help cover the bills when on maternity leave?

You will get SMP, plus any extra your work policy gives you. Plus child benefit.

NameChange30 · 09/08/2018 19:08

It depends on a lot of things

Do you have a partner, do they work and if so how much do they earn

What is your usual salary

Will you get enhanced maternity pay, SMP or Maternity Allowance

How much maternity leave do you plan to take

Do you rent and if so how much rent do you pay

Do you or your partner have a disability and if so do you claim PIP

Do you or your partner have savings and if so how much

No one can tell you without more info, basically.
