6 months postpartum, feeling weird

Hi All,

I know this is the pregnancy forum but wasn't quite sure where to post.

I had my first baby 6 months ago, he's a lovely wee thing full of joy and pretty chilled out too which is nice. He's just started sleeping through the night 6.30 - 6.30 with a dream feed at 10.30 to keep him going (formula feeding) and he is fairly easy, as babies go.

Problem is, I am suddenly feeling rougher than ever. I am just tired all the time constantly yawning, have to nap 2-3 times a day even though I get my 8 hours at night. I've also had a few dizzy spells. I have PND and am currently halfway through a course of CBT for it, which is helping massively.

After I gave birth I waited 10 weeks and then started taking the contraceptive pill, but I noticed that when I came to the end of the packet my period didn't always come, or I got blood but no pain whatsoever (which is a weird thing for me) so about 2 weeks ago I decided to come off the pill for a bit to see if that would help. No period and still feeling weird.

Should I see the GP? Anyone experienced similar? Help!

Have you taken a pregnancy test to rule out being pregnant again?

Depending on how sleep deprived you were for the first six months could just be your body catching up? I always feel like I could sleep for hours on days when I get a decent night’s rest. Somehow when I’m already short of sleep adrenaline keeps me going.

Do a test just to rule our pregnancy and if that's negative I'd say get a blood test from the gp. I felt exactly like this a few weeks ago ( my boy is 18 months) and has slept through for ages now. I was both iron and folic acid anaemic which was making me feel exhausted and faint.

Get to the GP and request a workup. Blood pressure, blood sugars, thyroid, iron, b12, vitamin D. Make sure you get a printout of the results, don’t just accept ‘all fine’ because things like thyroid have very broad reference ranges in the Uk.

I felt like this and it turned out I was very anaemic. Iron tablets are foul but have helped enormously.
