Does anyone have any info on risks of baby having to go to NICU after csec delivery at 37 weeks. My doc has me scheduled for csec at 37 weeks 5 days, but I’m worried that is too soon. In addition to type 1 DM, I have a history of Hypertension. Both DM and HTN have been well controlled through pregnancy

37 weeks plus isn’t considered premature and is considered full-term so if your baby has to go to NICU it won’t be because they’re ‘premature’. You’ll be nearly 38 weeks so I’d really try not to worry Flowers

Two of mine were born through planned induction (i had gdm but was insulin controlled) at 38 weeks exactly and neither needed any assistance at all.
My third was born at 34 weeks and needed a couple of weeks in NICU to grow and receive treatment for jaundice but was otherwise fine.
They don’t usually send otherwise healthy 35 weekers to NICU/SCBU where ds2 was born so I’d have thought at nearly 38 weeks the chance will be slim that they’ll need extra assistance.

Thank you both that is reassuring news! Any issues with baby’s having hypoglycemia post delivery? If so, what is standard management?

Ds1 had slightly low blood sugars and was supplemented with formula for first few feeds (I was otherwise breastfeeding). I think they messed up my glucose/insulin drips during labour because my post delivery level was 26! After a couple of feeds his sugars stabilised and they stopped testing. A kind nurse found him a heated cot which also helped because it meant he didn’t expend as much energy maintaining his temp.

Ds2 (my 34 weeker) had a glucose drip for the first few days because he needed to learn to suck, but he was born in the US and they were generally very cautious about everything, so treatment might have been different in UK. He was born very quickly without much warning and my sugars were a bit all over the place beforehand.
