After seeing a picture in a pregnancy book the mw gave me, I was shocked at the size of the baby's head compared to the vagina. I know that they're special muscles etc etc but I suppose what I'm wanting to know is does it go back to normal or will it be slightly different? This is my first and it's silly but it is worrying me, especially as I've heard other womens partners making jokes about it. I tried to ask my mum but she just killed herself laughing.

I think it will be slightly different
to say the least

LadyTophamHatt · 02/06/2007 09:19

I've got 4 Ds;s and they all come out of the normal exit....Dh hasn't complained so I assume it all still works for him

suzywong · 02/06/2007 09:20

well yes, what do I know, 2 long labours and two emergemcy caesars, LT would know. O yes, she would know. W

LadyTophamHatt · 02/06/2007 09:20

But equally, I'm sure it doesn't look as...err... pretty down there.

But anyway it all still in perfect wirking order so that all that matters.

teafortwoandtwofortea · 02/06/2007 09:20

It does change a bit but it still works

(I think that's whay they do mooncups in 2 sizes )

lulumama · 02/06/2007 09:22

everything is very, very stretchy

thing should go back to normal, make sure you do pelvic floor excercises before and after the birth, that is really important

and give things a few weeks to get back to normal, your body goes through massive hormonal and physical changes when you are pregnant, so things will look and feel different for a while, but your vagina should go back to how it was

your body is designed to do this!

the sort of men who make jokes about it are really being silly, and playing on the fears of women, which is not very nice....

your baby;s head is mouldable , the bones are not all joined ( the fontanelles are the gaps in the skull ) that allow the head to mould and the bones to slide over each other as the baby is being born, to facilitate the birth

seamonster · 02/06/2007 09:22

Do your pelvic floor exercises it might limit the impact.

BeachBunni · 02/06/2007 09:36

Oh thank you for answering. it's not really a question I could ask anyone else. You've reassured me slightly especially lulumama. Keep forgetting to do my pelvic floor exercises but now will make sure they are a priority. Men are insensitive cretins.

Suzy, With 2 C/s I bet your fanjo is in a better state than mine though

lulumama · 02/06/2007 10:23

LTH - a lot of impact to the pelvic floor happens when you are pregnant, so having a c.s doesn;t avoid any damage...obviously birth itself has an impact.....that is why doing those pelvic floor excercises is a must!

don;t think MN needs a 'who's got the best looking fanjo' contest, do you?

lyrabelacqua · 02/06/2007 10:25

Everything back to normal here afaik. Haven't looked though [yuck emoticon]

Uki · 02/06/2007 11:27

some women are actually tighter than before, doesn't make sense but is quite common.

PregnantGrrrl · 02/06/2007 21:35

DP feels no difference, neither do i. And it looks the same. Thank god.

Wilkie · 02/06/2007 21:37

Everything feels the same although I have a small extra flap of skin at the bottom where the stitches didn't quite mend me properly

PregnantGrrrl · 02/06/2007 21:38

god i'm glad i didn't have any stitches! (keeps fingers crossed for this time too!)

nally · 02/06/2007 21:39

we still have trouble getting dh in there (tmi ) so am pretty sure it is as tight as before. i caught a glimpse of it once, after having dc, and it isn't so neat as it used to be..

hang on, we had several fanjo threads last night... this may have been covered? where is whomovedmychocolate? she might remember!

Malaleche · 02/06/2007 21:41

it doesnt matter as you'll probably never have sex again

elibumbum · 04/06/2007 16:37

The men that make stupid jokes about it are probably just insecure because they have very small willies - and I would tell them that if they made a joke like that in front of me

lisasophie · 04/06/2007 18:17

I just asked my OH and he said it was the same.
I had a wee bulgy bit where I tore through the muscle but after doing loads of pelvic floor exercises I am back to normal except for a wee bit of skin that wasn't stitched back.
Do your pelvic floor exercises and you will be fine.

allgonebellyup · 04/06/2007 21:03

Are you quite young? i think the younger you are, the more chance you have of staying the same, body-wise.
i had my dc at 20 then 24, and everything has pinged back into shape, and pretty much looks the same as before, even though i had about a zillion stitches..

allgonebellyup · 04/06/2007 21:05

Couldnt have asked my partner at the time what it all looked like as have a habit of not letting men look at my bits when they are getting jiggy with me. dont think anyone has seen my bits apart from doctors!
