I had a scan a couple of weeks ago (28 weeks)and baby was 2lb15 so was told baby is bigger than average, in my notes on my graph it looks like I m gunna be having nearly 9lb8 baby, some people have said that the charts aren't very accurate, what's everyone's experiences

I had a scan the day before the baby was born saying he was 6lb3oz . he was 9lb10oz they aren't always accurate

Greenwomanofmay · 07/08/2018 19:54

The scan I had about 15 hours before DS was born it was 12oz out. The growth chart through pregnancy was over 1lb out. I was predicted to have an average size baby and he was much bigger.

enbh · 07/08/2018 19:55

Mine was absolutely spot on, 9lb 11 exactly what the hospital had predicted!

BendingSpoons · 07/08/2018 19:56

Not very accurate. It is hard to get measurements and tiny differences have a big affect. DD measured on 50%ile on one growth scan and smaller on another but was born on 75%ile. You probably won't have a small baby but not necessarily what the graph shows.

Whitelisbon · 07/08/2018 19:59

I had a scan at 37 weeks (they thought ds was breech, turns out he just has a bony bum), and they told me he was "about 8lb", and the bounty book told me they put on 1/2lb ish a week at the end.
I was having nightmares about a 12lb baby, and even swapped the clothes in the hospital bag for 0-3 months ones.
He was born at 42+3, weighing 7lb 5oz.

beccii161016 · 07/08/2018 20:06

My bump charts showed that I would have a 7'7-8lb baby. What they obviously didn't show because it's just a tape measure is that I had excess water and baby was actually 6lb4.

They're not hugely accurate. As for growth scans I've heard mixed reviews. It's hit and miss really

BlackType · 07/08/2018 20:06

Inaccurate, IME. My first was apparently going to be 6lb. He was 10. Others were over 10lb, though were ELCS so I don't remember their predicted weights. I'm the size of a small sparrow, btw.

Meganc559 · 07/08/2018 20:07

I just don't believe he will be that big, I was only 5lb5 and my partner 6lb10

Ds was going to be over 9lbs apparently and he was 7lb10. Dd waa going to be 8lbs and she was 6lbs 7.

1sttimeDD · 07/08/2018 20:16

I had a growth scan at 39+3 of 7lbs 3oz (way under my fundal height tracking) and gave birth at 39+5 at 6lbs 15oz

Asmallrole · 07/08/2018 20:16

My DGD was estimated at 6lbs at a growth scan 2 days before birth. She was 7lb 5oz.

BrazzleDazzleDay · 07/08/2018 20:24

All four of mine I was told they would be big, dd1 3lb 4, dd2 4lb 4, dd3 2lb and ds 3lb.

Dd1 was born the day after this ooh she's going to be big.

Load of shite I say

3boysandabump · 07/08/2018 20:26

I had one that was 4lb out, one that was just over 1lb out and one that was 10oz out. The bigger differences overestimated babies weight the other underestimated.

MrsRachel85 · 07/08/2018 20:27

My scan at 38 weeks was accurate. Was told he would be 10lb and he was that spot on.

TheGhostOfYou · 07/08/2018 20:28

Growth scan at 36+1 said 6lb1, baby born 8 days later 6lb3! So for me pretty accurate.

PenApple · 07/08/2018 20:32

DH was 6lb and I was 7 1/2lb, our babies were over 9 & 10lb - so don’t think that’s a factor.

But I’ve heard predictions are more wrong than right. Stock up on different sizes to cover yourself...

ShottaSheriff · 07/08/2018 20:34

My scan at 28 weeks showed that baby was on 95th centile and they were talking about induction before term. Later scans then showed baby to be smaller although still large. DD turned out to only be 7lb 3oz, so they were massively out - by at least a lb or two!

Bowlofbabelfish · 07/08/2018 20:37

The accepted figure for ultrasounds is about 20% each way. Fundal height isn’t very accurate - really it’s a blunt tool to check the rate of growth is constant and as a cheap and simple early warning.

I measured three weeks ahead consistently with my first and he was just over 6lb when we left hospital.

So not very accurate, is the answer but accurate enough to pick up accelerations/deceleration in growth and any serious issues

GuyGarveysWife · 07/08/2018 21:12

They said my son was going to be 6lb(the day before he was born) and he was 7lb6oz. So a difference but compared to some people’s not a HUGE difference.

Littlebelina · 07/08/2018 21:23

That doesn't sound that big to me. My scan this week (28+5) has bubs at 3lb dead on and on 50 percentile.

However in my experience they can be very inaccurate. Dd was predicted to be over 6lb and came out 4lb 8

MrsH193 · 07/08/2018 21:48

Not remotely accurate.

I had growth scan at 39 weeks and was told baby was measuring 10.5lbs so I was induced the next day. Ended up having a c-section and he was 8lb5 but I did have over 4 litres of fluid so perhaps that affected the measurements during the scan.

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 07/08/2018 21:54

Both mine were pretty accurate. Dd was estimated to be 6 pounds 15 oz at 37 weeks. She was born a fortnight later weighing 7 pounds 15 oz.

Heratnumber7 · 07/08/2018 22:32

Pretty bloody accurate in my experience. Spot on with one, couple of ounces out with the other.
