Hi, I’ve just turned 18 and think I’m about 5weeks pregnant, I have a doctors appointment at the end of the week. I’m don’t know an awful lot about being pregnant. Last night when I went to the loo before bed I noticed brown spotting in my knickers, but have heard of implantation bleeding so I didn’t think much of it, this morning when I went to the loo, it was more pinky red but only when I wipe (TMI) So put a pad in, nothing has really come out on my of throughout the day and have only had miled cramps nothing like period cramps, but the last few times I’ve been to the loo my pad is still pretty much clear but it kinda does a couple of drips of red gloupy stuff (if that makes sense) and once I’ve wiped a couple of times it comes out clear. I’m really worried as even though this wasn’t planned I have just come to terms with having a baby and would be devistated to lose it. Please could someone shed some light on what’s going on?

Hello,

Presumably you've had a positive pregnancy test? In terms of the mild bleeding and mild cramps, unfortunately no-one can tell you what these signify. Could be implantation bleeding or could be start of a miscarriage.

Can you see your GP earlier, or speak over the phone? They would need to refer you to the early pregnancy unit at hospital for a scan, to get an idea of what is happening. Although 5w is quite early so you may not get a definite answer, even with a scan.

Good luck - hope it works out for you. Do you have any support in real life? Parents/friend/baby's father?

Hi OP,

Spotting can be common in early pregnancy, however it can also sadly be a sign that all is not well.

The advice I was given with this pregnancy (I experienced brown spotting) was if bright red and accompanied by painful cramps, then to get medical attention.

I would also recommend having a good look at the NHS website for information regarding pregnancy, as with forums (although they can be invaluable for support) a lot of people can only speak of their personal, not medical experience.

Are you supported in real life?

icklebutterfly · 06/08/2018 18:16

I have done 7 tests over the last 1 1/2 and all positive. I don’t really have support, I don’t get along with my parents that well and don’t live with either of them, my boyfriend, the baby’s father is sort of supportive, but he’d rather not talk about it unless I’m in floods of tears but then I feel like he’s only being supportive because he feels like he has to be.

Thank you, I’ll take a look on there, my cramps have been pretty mild, And it’s more of a dark red now than anything else, is that normal or cause to worry?

I wouldn't be able to advise you properly on that, I'm not a medical expert and dont want to give you the wrong information. For any bleeding, the advice is to contact your GP (at this time it would be out of hours) or midwife asap.

Have a look at this for more information regarding antenatal care and how to access services:

hello @icklebutterfly, I'm 19 and currently 21 weeks pregnant, I've had 2 MMC's so I totally get the worrying side you're experiencing, id contact your EPU or gp and ask them to do bloods to see if your HCG levels have risen, or try and book an early scan in with your EPU, fingers crossed for you my lovely and I hope all is well [flower]

icklebutterfly · 06/08/2018 18:52

Thank you, do you know if I can book in straight with EPU or if my Doctor has to refer me? Congratulations, hope you have a healthy & Happy pregnancy x

It varies. At mine the GP hasto refer but others not so if you call, they should be able to let you know.

SavanahXx · 06/08/2018 19:08

I know that at the Bolton EPU you can just ring up and they book you in, id give your EPU a ring if I was you, and thank you :) I really hope things go well for you x
