Does anyone recommend these machines? Heard so much about them and in two minds whether to get one or not or stick with traditional method of bottle warming.

I wouldn't be without mine (have the original version). So much so that I bought a second one to have upstairs for nighttime!

That’s good to know :) yes I’ve heard lots of good things about these but a few people put doubts in my head. I suppose I shud just go with my gut x

I think if you are considering using one to make sure you clean/replace the filters :)

I went to an NHS antenatal class last week and they advised against them. Just FYI.

Faith84 · 06/08/2018 06:23

Yes!! These machines are a life saver and like a previous comment I have two - one in the kitchen and one upstairs at night.

However you must change the filters regularly. There is a light that comes on when it’s ready to be changed however I don’t wait for that and change it more frequently. I also unscrew the back/bottom every now and then and make sure all the tubes look clean.

Would heartily recommend!!!

mrs2468 · 06/08/2018 06:44

Would recommend but wouldn't pay the extra for the new version apart from a light there is no difference,

Happygolucky009 · 06/08/2018 06:50

No, they doesn't sterilize properly and the BBC did some reasearch which showed a high bacteria level in the milk when made up using the perfect prep machine.

" I suppose I shud just go with my gut x"

Or you could go with research?

lionstigersbearsohmyg · 06/08/2018 07:01

I have always used on with my DD with no issues.

WhirlingTurkey · 06/08/2018 08:26

I wouldn't personally, due to the info in the first steps link above. I'd have concerns about bacteria in the formula powder not being killed.

I never personally found making bottles fresh with the kettle much bother.

The WHO Guidelines for safe formula preparation are worth a read if you haven't already. www.who.int/foodsafety/publications/micro/PIF_Bottle_en.pdf

Yes! I had one, used it every day (more than once!) for a year and my DS is totally fine. They are a lifesaver in the middle of the night.

mommybear1 · 06/08/2018 09:14

I have one and it's great HV etc said not to use it but after having read the research it suggested the problems with the machines were caused when people didn't clean them properly or change/use the TT filters.

DreamingofSunshine · 06/08/2018 09:29

I love mine, and like zebrapig I had one in the nursery for night feeds.

beccii161016 · 06/08/2018 09:39

I know a few people who have used them and have had no problems but my DS didn't get on with it, it seemed to unsettle his tummy.

The reason the NHS don't recommend them is nothing to do with cleaning/filters (although if you don't maintain them of course that will lead to problems) it's because they don't completely sterilise the milk.

Generally, for each oz of formula you need an oz of 70 degree water to sterilise. The problem with the prep machine is that, say you're making a 6oz bottle, the machine only distributes 3ish oz's of 70 degree water to dissolve the powder which is not enough to sterilise that amount of formula. The rest of the water dispensed is cool to make it to drinking temperature.

As I say I know many people who have these and love them but we had to revert to making them win a kettle and cooling them under a running tap and it was perfectly manageable, only took 5 minutes.

myotherbagisgucci · 06/08/2018 09:49

I've had mine for 7 months, and it's amazing! I even took it with us on holiday!
