There are lots of conflicting ideas on this so I understand your worry. I actually asked the same question a few months ago!

NHS advice is that normal wall paint is generally unlikely to cause harm. www.nhs.uk/common-health-questions/pregnancy/can-paint-fumes-affect-my-unborn-baby/

I think it’s more the solvent based paints/glosses that are an issue. Also it’s best to wait until you’re past the first trimester which you are.

I stayed away from the major painting at first but we were doing 2 rooms at the same time and DH is a bit DIY challenged. After a fair few crappy coats over too many weekends I grabbed a roller and got stuck in on one of the rooms! I did leave him to the gloss and stayed away when he was using it as the fumes felt very strong.

When using the emulsion I made sure to keep the room well ventilated, took lots of rest breaks and drank plenty of water (making sure to leave the room to eat/drink).

I think it’s down to personal choice, if you feel ok to do it and are using the right paint, go for it. If you’re concerned or the paint you’ll be using is a stronger/solvent based one then put your feet up with an ice lolly and leave it OH!

I was painting when i was between 28 and 30 weeks. Didn't do any glossing though and just had a rest and some freah air every so often. I think if you feel like you are fit and able then do it.
