32 week scan for low lying placenta (help)

Hi,

I have my scan next week as my placenta was low on my 20 week scan, I've read all that the hospital gave me but I don't actually know if it's an ultrasound or something else, and if I need a full bladder. Please advice, thanks in advance.

I've had this. It'll be exactly the same as the scan they do at 12 and 20 weeks, so you need a full bladder, urine sample and you'll probably see midwife / consultant depending on the results of the scan. Try not to worry, most placentas move up.

I didn't need a full bladder for any of my scans and I'd imagine by 32 weeks, they'll be able to see everything easily without the need for a full bladder.

You definitely won’t need a full bladder but just to warn you, my ultrasound was inconclusive so I had to have an internal scan too. It had moved up though - I’m sure yours will have too!

Just so you are prepared for any eventuality, when I had this it was an internal ultrasound scan as my scar from previous c section was blocking the view. I think this is very unlikely though if this is your first pregnancy Smile

Hey!
I didn't need a full bladder for my 20 week scan and from 26 weeks had to have scans every week as my daughter was too small and none of them I had to have a full bladder for! Maybe take some water with you incase they need to do a urine test! All the best hun

I didn't need a full bladder or an internal scan. My placenta had moved by 36 weeks, most do.

Try not to worry its very straight forward.

When I had mine for this reason, it was an internal scan, they didn't even try abdominal, so no need for a full bladder.

Ultrasound, abdominal however if they can't see it clearly enough they'll do a vaginal one.
