Diarrhoea in early pregnancy

Hi!

So sorry for the tmi here but I'm at my wits end!

I'm 4 weeks+3 days pregnant and I've been having diarrhoea on and off for about a week now. Yesterday and today, it's been at it's absolute worse. I'm keeping hydrated and eating a very plain and simple diet but what's really causing me concern is that I'm supposed to be going on my honeymoon tomorrow!!!!

I really don't know how I'm going to manage the journey to the airport, the wait at the airport and the 12 hour flight. I can't bear thinking about it. I've read that Imodium and other anti-diarrhoea medicines are not suitable for pregnancy.

Help! Is there anything I can do to relieve the diarrhoea without medication? I feel like crying 😭

I suffered with this in the early days too so you have my sympathy!

I found that I’d changed my diet too drastically and when I eased up on the fruit it got a bit better. Could something like this be causing it?

Also if you’re taking pregnancy vitamins, when are you taking them? I was doing it in the morning and it made me feel sick and added to stomach issues. I switched to taking them after my evening meal which helped immediately.

As you’ll be travelling I’d go to the pharmacy ASAP and see if they can recommend any medications that could help.

Failing that I would say to see the GP but I see you’re leaving tomorrow. Can you call your local maternity unit and explain the situation? They might have some advice.

Natural remedies are supposed to include ginger tea or 3 or 4 tablespoons of honey in a glass of water. As usual with an upset stomach keep your diet bland and drink plenty of water.

Sorry I couldn’t be more help but I hope you feel better and enjoy your honeymoon x

I had this for two weeks at the start of my first pregnancy - you haven my sympathies. Unfortunately the GP told me there was nothing I could do except wait it out. It did go away after two weeks although I realise that isn't any comfort with your honeymoon imminent.

I'd contact your early pregnancy unit for advice asap. The pharmacist is a good idea too. Is there any way you could postpone the trip? I did the 12-hour flight with no problems at 26 weeks but not sure I'd have wanted to when I was really ill at the beginning.
