Wanting to buy one of these as i don't want to leave my baby unattended or bring her outside every time to put the nappy in the outside in the bin. Can any mums recommendations if it's worth buying before i waste my money.
Many thanks in advance Smile

I have the angelcare one. In fact I have 2 (one upstairs, one downstairs). I wouldn't be without in personally. I know a lot of people think they are a waste of time and money however it keeps smells at bay, means I don't have to go outside every time I change a nappy and that my inside bin doesn't get full of nappies and absolutely stink!

The brand's are all very similar so I'm sure the tommee tippee one will be as good as the angelcare one.

TangelasVine · 03/08/2018 19:50

It's the tubs and bags that'll cost you money rather than actual bin.
I did have one for a little while when I lived in a high floor flat but nappy bags do the same job really

Strawberry2017 · 03/08/2018 19:51

I have that bin and it's in our bedroom, it's a lifesaver at night.
Saves me having to take smelly nappies downstairs all the time.
I know some people don't rate nappy bins but I'm really happy with our.

AutoFilled · 03/08/2018 19:52

They are absolutely rubbish. I had it with my first. They were fine for the first 6mo before solids. Then once their poo starts smelling, the entire room stinks with poo. I find out basically it doesn’t do a thing to keep smell in.

With my second, I got a simple lidded bin from Ikea. Wet nappies go in the bin. Dirty nappies go straight outside to the wheelie bin. No difference in smell to using a pricy nappy bin. I couldn’t leave the poo nappy indoors anyways.

It’s totally fine popping outside to throw a nappy in the bin. How far is it? If you are in a block of flats, maybe a second lidded bin near the front entrance? (So as to not stink up the baby’s room).

AutoFilled · 03/08/2018 19:53

Haha in the evening I just throw the dirty nappy, in a nappy sack, down the stairs. It will be dealt with in the morning!!

GreenMeerkat · 03/08/2018 19:53

I didn't like it. They are supposed to be odourless but I could always smell it. I just put nappies straight into the outdoor bin.

GreenMeerkat · 03/08/2018 19:54

@AutoFilled hahaha outs go out of the bedroom window in the middle of the night, land in the garden, bin in morning!

AutoFilled · 03/08/2018 19:57

@GreenMeerkat that’s really smart. Why didn’t I think of that! Like others say, a nappy sack does the same job. A cheap small lidded bin gives an extra barrier to stop the smell.

K9pal7 · 03/08/2018 19:57

I have a dog and i don't want to risk leaving the room even for a minute. My dog Isn't nasty but she's not used to babies and small children as it's been her and my other half for 13/14 years before i come along and got pregnant that's one reason why am thinking of buying one or one similar. Since i was attacked by a dog when younger o wouldn't ever leave my niece and nephews in a room with a dog and wouldn't same with mine.

I had one and after running out of the bags ended up chucking the nappy bag straight in there. After that I continued to just use it to put nappies in nappy bags in. It wasn’t always possible for me to go out to the bin so it was a god send although it was never long in between empties.
I found using the thicker nappy bags helped contain the smell.

User56578711 · 03/08/2018 19:59

Utter waste of money. I’m on DC3 and still have it from DC1 and have never even thought to use it. A wee nappy can go in a small paper bin next to the change table, empty ever few days. Baby poo is totally inoffensive, pop poo nappies by the door and take to the outdoor bin whenever passing.

It just adds extra waste plastic and expense to the process. Also they tempt you to leave them in there for too long as it’s a faff to change, and they pong a lot more than a regularly changed normal bin!

anotherangel2 · 03/08/2018 20:00

With pets it is often easier to take the pet with you when you leave them room.

DrWhy · 03/08/2018 20:01

Ours is great, you can smell it when it starts to get full but by then there’s nearly a weeks worth of nappies in it so that’s not really surprising. I really notice the difference when we are on holiday and don’t have it, a single dirty nappy in a nappy sack in a bin will make the room stink! DS is 22 months and I absolutely rate them. You can buy the bag things that go in them on a repeat order on Amazon or you can just keep an eye out for any offers and stock up.

kenandbarbie · 03/08/2018 20:01

I don't think you need one. I just used to leave nappies in the scented nappy bag by the front door till I could take them out. Usually there's not loads of poos.

pinkmummy1 · 03/08/2018 20:03

I have an angel care one and have never bought a new cartridge. I jest used up the old one and now use bin liners and it works brilliantly. Keeps in all smells and I empty it every other day. I got the bin bag idea on YouTube when I was looking for reviews.

purpledreamcatching · 03/08/2018 20:11

I found it doesn't work to trap smells any better than a normal bin.

If it reassures you at all about the dog I have is a crazy one, stressy intelligent breed who worries about everything and really isn't keen on kids. He was with us for 9 years on his own without children. (He's not left alone with my daughter) However he is her number one fan, follows her everywhere, she loves him too. The play chase around the house and she throws his ball for him.

purpledreamcatching · 03/08/2018 20:13

Oh yes and as PP suggest, the easier way to do it is to take the dog with you. If I need a wee the toddler is left playing (somewhere safe) and the dog comes with me 😁

DwangelaForever · 03/08/2018 20:14

I loved mine in the newborn stage! We lived in an apartment and putting stinky nappies in our kitchen bin just didn't work for us.

MagicFajita · 03/08/2018 20:16

We had one when my daughter was a baby. It just ended up making the living room stink. Expensive to replace cartridges too.

For this baby we just bought a lidded bucket from eBay and we use nappy bags before placing them in it. We empty it every night.

RideOn · 03/08/2018 20:17

I didn't find it helpful at all, it was a faff and not particularly good at holding smell in.
I ended up just using normal bin (which has a lid in a cupboard - if you sniff it closely with no nappies there is a very mild smell, with nappies in no stronger smell, when cupboard closed can't smell anything) and regularly emptying that outside. I sold it before my second child.

RideOn · 03/08/2018 20:18

Cartridges cost too, I would say don't waste your money

Trinpy · 03/08/2018 20:22

DH bought one when dc1 was a couple if months old because the baby was pooing about 10x a day and our outside bin was quite a walk away. When dc2 was born and I had 2 in nappies I bought a 2nd nappy bin to go in the bathroom downstairs, this time just a basic lidded one. The smell from the one downstairs was awful. I had to empty it every day and even then it wasn't great. The tommee tippee one is still going strong 4.5 years later and it does smell a bit when it needs emptying but is fine the rest of the time.

I get the cartridges through Amazon subscribe and save which works out slightly cheaper.

IndominousRex · 03/08/2018 20:31

Total waste of plastic.

ununpentium · 03/08/2018 20:50

I have one and think it's great. I don't actually have kids (yet) but I have an ileostomy so I change my stoma bag and dispose of it in a nappy sack. Just like a nappy, they are smelly and my outside bin is a bit far so I bought the nappy bin and it works great.

Bananacentral · 03/08/2018 20:53

I love them!

Yes you don’t NEED them, but I find them really useful to have upstairs and downstairs to save regular trips to the bin! I find they contain odour well even with weaning poos Blush
