How sick were you in your preg?

First time preg , I am at 7 weeks and with not telling people I have nowhere to turn. Mother & MIL ask me how I am but then say oh ok, it's all normal. Husband seems to think I am exaggerating and that all women go through this and his words "I knew you would be like this". I’ve been to the GP today, she mostly said ‘Aww’ at each of my answers and basically said to calm down and wait, she gave me a nausea tablet though. Called NHS24 last Sunday and again, just “aww, poor you, it’s not easy growing a baby “.

So need to find out if everyone is this sick and sucks it up and I am a wimp, or what Confused
Bang on at 6 weeks nausea and vomiting started, I only threw up once by myself, the rest is forced every day to relieve sickness. My stomach hurts when I vomit. I am nauseous 24/7 and even woke up cause of it. My plans of healthy food are down the drain as I can’t eat much. I use to drink 2-3L of water a day, can barely get a glass down now (lemon water and orange juice and that make me extra sick as they are acid). I spend my day between being nauseous, burping, dry retching and dizzy, diarrhoea at lunch but having stomach cramps and being bloated with pain every night, sometimes get like a shiver from the sickness. I am an otherwise healthy person so really cannot believe what hit me.

What are your experiences?

Sick all day every day up until labour and even in labour was still throwing up with my first. Everyone kept telling me it would disappear by about 5 months.....no it bloody didn't!!!

Starbucksbasic123 · 04/08/2018 23:45

Nausea was unreal and I had to make myself sick but it was constant from 6 weeks. Feel better soon my love

Nothisispatrick · 04/08/2018 23:50

I didn't have any throwing up but I was hideously nauseous, dizzy and tired from week 6 - 14. Then it all went away and got this magical wave of energy like I had been reborn. Now 31 weeks and I'm tired again, my hips hurt like hell and I have carpal tunnel and swollen feet.

I was sick pretty much all day long with DC1. It felt like I was both hungover and had a bad stomach bug every day from week 6-16, it was horrendous. If I wasn’t throwing up, I still just felt nauseous. I remember seeing an M&S advert on TV and hurling at the sight of the food Blush. Horrible time...

With DC2&3 I had no sickness whatsoever, not even a drop of nausea- I was very lucky. They were both girls which I think for me made a difference.

This time around it’s a boy again. I didn’t actually vomit but I felt sick all day long from week 5-17 and it came back in the evening during weeks 19-24 ish.

Fucking miserable, you have my sympathies. The only thing I could bear was mints, I got through soooo many packs of them every week.

Cyclizine is very safe. Dehydration due to not being able to keep down liquids can be dangerous though.

Thishatisnotmine · 05/08/2018 07:47

With dd1 I was sick a few times every day and felt sick a bit. With dd2 I vomitted a lot less but felt sick all the time, I think that was actually worse as it made me misserable. With both smells made me sick though. It really is a shock how bad pregnancy can make you feel!

With both dc vegetables made me feel sick. I ate balls of mozzarella, Dominoes, pot noodles, mini birthday cakes from Morrisons... there was no health until 5 or six months in! With dd2 I was aneamic in the last couple of months though.

You will be fine, just keep taking folic acid each day. If you are struggling to drink though get yourself back the the GP.

It's horrendous feeling awful every day and not knowing when it will get better. But it WILL! And in the meantime be nice to yourself. Eat whatever you can manage, screw what anyone says about "eating healthy", there will be time for all that later. Just put in whatever stays in. And take anything your doctor suggests might help. Hugs to you.

Cyclizine is totally safe. I had to take it throughout my first pregnancy and know many people who have. This pregnancy I’m surviving thanks to a cocktail of much stronger drugs. Please start to take it as the quicker you get on top of the sickness the better. I’m glad glad you read up on hyperemesis and though you don’t think you have it, I would still recommend a chat to the Pregnancy Sickness Support line as they are so encouraging and knowledgeable...they will help with your ‘severe pregnancy sickness’. They can also direct you to things to read up on it and when you find ones that are like your experience, forward them to your husband/mum. My husband found it very difficult to understand in my first pregnancy until I sent him articles to read about HG and he realised I ticked all the symptoms. This time around we are a team and it’s soooo much easier. Wishing you the best...get taking those meds. And be encouraged by all the ladies who have got through this; and done it again! It’s awful but it does end and it is worth it. Flowers

I was sick from about 3.5 weeks and am still being sick at 37 weeks. Slightly worse than my first pregnancy and I was hospitalised this time at about 12 weeks.

At its worst it was over 50x a day. None of the drugs I’ve been given have helped.

Sucks. Sorry :(

elliejjtiny · 05/08/2018 16:59

Ds1- throwing up 20+ times a day from week 7 to week 14. Then I was a bit better as long as I didn't eat dairy. All fine from week 30
Ds2 - worlds worst hangover week 7 to week 30 and throwing up 5 times a day
Ds3 - throwing up 5-10 times a day from week 7 to waters breaking
Ds4 - same as ds3
Ds5 - throwing up 5 -10 times a day until day after birth. Ketones +2 in my wee. Then just constant nausea for a couple of weeks after birth. Still have food aversions 4 years later.

No sympathy or treatment apart from one injection of cyclizine after ds5 was born. Told by various hcps that it was all normal and I could get anti sickness meds if I stopped weeing for over 24 hours.

AleenaM · 06/08/2018 22:16

After purplejs message I had started on the cyclizine and although yesterday it knocked me out and I took a 5 hours nap, today I am happy to report I ate 3 times, had water and fruits and reading about food does not turn my stomach upside down, I even clicked a ‘ 12 ideas for lunch’ link. Oh and cooked dinner and washed 3 plates, ha! Still naseaous all the time and the medicine makes me all spaced out, Turns out MIL & FIL called this normal is because she suffered the same (5 pregnancies). Definitely not normal!

I found very useful guidance to read yesterday at my worst; there is a 2016 published document for health practitioners called: The Management of Nausea and Vomiting of Pregnancy and Hyperemesis Gravidarum (Green-top Guideline No. 69) , I don’t have HG but I also found some relief in looking through a hash tag on instagram, #hyperemesisgravidarum., some funny ones as well,

Elliejjtiny hats off to you, that sounds very difficult!

Just spotted your last message. I’m so so glad that cyclizine improves things a little. The spaced out feeling should pass as you get used to it. And if it starts to not be enough to keep you going, there are stronger meds you can look into...all safe. I find tiredness the absolute biggest contributor to ‘bad days’ so do not feel bad about resting at every given opportunity. Well done...another day done. You will get there. Flowers

Both my pregnancies were 9 months of being ill and hospital admittance for Hyperemesis gravidarum and pre eclampsia. Bloody awful time. Lived on ginger nut biscuits for ages as they were the only things I could keep down.
