Which pram do I need?

Could anyone advise on what pram I should get?

I currently have a babyzen yo-yo and a bugaboo chameleon and want to sell the bugaboo for something else as it’s not quite working for us.

We have two DDs one a newborn and one quite large 3 year old. We currently keep the babyzen’s in the boot for when we use the car with the newborn in hers and toddler on the buggyboard although we have one that we use for her whenever we need to which isn’t often. I used the bugaboo when walking from home but sometimes find that I need a more substantial pram for going out in the car and it doesn’t fold well.

I’m looking for :
-Something that can take a new born or a 3 year old without having to massively change it around.
-something that can take a buggy board
-something that can do terrain other than pavements
-something that folds relatively compact

3 yo hardly ever needs the buggy but does f she’s tired in which case I would pop baby in sling. I’m thinking a mountain buggy or baby jogger of some sort but don’t know where to start! Any reccomendations would be much appreciated!

Uppababy Vista

SpottingTheZebras · 02/08/2018 13:29

I had an Uppababy Vista and loved it but it was horrible on terrain other than flat pavements and it is big and bulky, even when folded.

OP, can you go to a big store and try out various prams? The folding compactly and being used on different terrains rarely go together in my experience.

Bugaboo bee?

Baby jogger would work well.
My baby jogger doesn't recline flat, not sure if other models do. It didn't bother me as I would just put dd1 in the Pram and then use the sling for dd2.

Out n About 360 double?

I'm planning on one of these for my 2.5 y.o and newborn (when baby arrives). People rave about them.

My sister has the Phil and Ted's Hammerhead 4WD inline double and can't speak highly enough of it. She says it's pretty heavy, but she doesn't lift it that often. It folds compactly. I've seen several different Phil and Ted models being used with buggyboards, but not sure about the Hammerhead.

Bugaboo donkey can fit both the 3 year old and newborn in and converts to a single.

i second the bugaboo donkey

I think you want something which doesn't need a carrycot or other adaptor for a newborn, so something with a hinged seat rather than moulded one.

Do you want the buggy to be parent facing with the newborn in? If so this fits the same criteria we had (newborn to toddler w/o carrycot, decent wheels for terrain, small fold) minus buggy board.

These were my finalists:

Mutsy Evo
Joie Chrome DLX
Cybex Balios S (This also has high weight rating for toddler)
Maxi Cosi Adorra

I'm afraid I don't know how these do with buggy boards, but might give you a starting point to investigate anyway.

We had a Phil and teds navigator and it was amazing! Fits a buggy board and a second seat! I used to have my 4 year old sit on the front foot rest and 2 year old and newborn in the seats when 4 YO got fed up or scooting or similar! We called it the tank and it went on sand, woods etc with ease! Out of the doubles I've tried it had a small turn on it, same as a large single buggy so fitting through doors etc was fine and had good sunshades and recline features.

Thanks all! I have seen the donkey but I’m sure it will fold up even bigger than the current chameleon so don’t think that’s an option. Will have a look at Phil and teds!

As pp says out and about 360
I have one ( twins) and I love it. Don't know about buggy board though, check.

SpottingTheZebras · 02/08/2018 19:29

The Out N About 360 double is a great pram, especially for off road but it is not compact! It probably folds down to be four or more times the size of your current Yoyo.

City mini gt would fit your requirements. The seat does go almost flat but depending on just how little your newborn is you might want a carrycot attachment or a seat hugger type thing!
