Do I need to worry about reduced movements?

I'm 27 weeks pregnant on Monday. Baby has been really active the last couple of weeks and has been kicking me hard all throughout the day and often after 9pm. The pattern over the last two days (since yesterday) hasn't changed and I can still feel kicks, but they're small, and much less frequent. Sometimes I go a while without feeling any at all which I haven't been used to since 20 weeks. My midwife hasn't talked to me about reduced movements as my 25 week appointment was missed (by her). I didn't even know it was a thing until I looked on mn. Should I be worried? Or is this normal before 27 weeks?

If In doubt go and get checked. It's better to be safe than sorry! Any change in movements/reduced movements are worth getting looked at

Best to ring the triage team and ask them for advice. Let them know you've had no advice on reduced movements, but that you've noticed a change. They will then tell you whether to come in, or whether there is someone else you should be talking to.

I had a concern about movements at about 24 weeks, and was seen by the day assessment unit in the local antenatal unit, but post 28 weeks it's been triage in the big hospital (an hour away...) all fine each time, and they've confirmed I was right to ring in.

As a rule it's never the wrong thing to do to call them. They would far rather have you come in and be perfectly fine than sat at home and something potentially wrong.

Always go in to get checked. If they try and fob you off and say it's too soon to have a pattern or be worried I'd be asking them if they are 100% certain your baby is okay. They will say they can't say that so you'll say then I'm coming in to get checked.

More frantic movements, less movements = go and get checked.

I had a snotty midwife once but ignored her. My baby was all that mattered.

Always worth getting checked. It's likely baby has slightly changed position as they are still small at this stage. I noticed my movements change last Friday, at my midwife appointment they checked position and she had moved from hammock to head down so the kicks had changed place!

WooYa · 02/08/2018 12:21

Call your triage, they will ask you to come in so they can check baby. I got told to go in as many times as I needed to

MissMoons · 02/08/2018 13:16

Really stressing. I've left a message with my midwife so hopefully she will get back to me as soon as possible. I have an appointment with her tomorrow afternoon. Hopefully she can advise on where to go...

Can you not call your local maternity unit/hospital? They can advise you too

BlueBug45 · 02/08/2018 14:05

OP if you have maternity notes they should have a number for maternity triage/maternal unit which you should call instead of calling your midwife.

Midwives are over worked and unlikely to get back to patients who call them, so you are better off to call either of the above.

Nothisispatrick · 02/08/2018 14:53

Your midwife probably has appointments all day, you need to call the actual unit.

Mousefunky · 02/08/2018 14:58

Inform the maternity assessment unit, they may ask you to attend and can monitor the heartbeat for a while.

I wouldn’t be overly concerned at 26 weeks. I’m also 26 weeks and have been told not to monitor movements until 28 weeks as before this they are still small enough to turn their back to you and tuck themselves away. My baby also has quiet days then will go back to normal the following day, I’ve realised it’s normal for him.

Always get checked if you're doubting the movements. I was in and out of maternity for the last 6 weeks of my pregnancy before finally being induced because of reduced fetal movements, just not worth the risk if something is wrong xx

nobodyreallyknowsme · 02/08/2018 16:48

Definitely get it checked out! Listen to your body and if you are worried tell the midwife.. I was 27weeks pregnant and had very reduced movement ( almost zero) for a while weekend and rightly flagged it to
My midwife. It was the right call. DS was very very poorly ... it had a good ending eventually but im so glad I listened to
My body

SpottingTheZebras · 02/08/2018 16:50

At 27 weeks you need to go to the hospital about reduced movements and go in straightaway. Just ring them (the number will be in your maternity notes or else you can google it) and someone will answer 24/7 365 days of the year.

BrutusMcDogface · 02/08/2018 16:54

Definitely ring day assessment unit and get checked out.

Almostthere15 · 02/08/2018 17:56

You should have a number on the front of your notes (usually it's a sticker printed with numbers, it should be maternity triage, if there isn't one perhaps labour ward?). If there isn't a number ring your local hospital and ask to be put through to maternity triage. They will give you advice. Your midwife might not be working today, and the advice is to speak to someone on the same day, don't wait.
