Does anyone know much about progesterone levels in early pregnancy?

Hi,

I had my progesterone levels checked at 5+2 and they have come back as being 120 nmol/l

Does anyone know if this is ok in early pregnancy or would I benefit from the progesterone pessaries that I have from a failed IVF cycle? This is a natural pregnancy. Believe it or not, my Dr had no clue.

Alls I know is above 30 confirms ovulation. So that sounds good and high for the stage you're at, but I'm literally guessing. I'd be doing some more research if I were you!!

Did the person checking the levels give any indication as to whether they were normal or not?

PeaPod2019 · 01/08/2018 18:31

Do you mind me asking why you had your levels checked? Sorry don't know anything about it so can't help but was just curious!

Thanks for the replies. No, the nurse who drew the blood wasn’t sure at all, same as my GP!
@PeaPod2019 Of course not. I have a difficult fertility history so I basically just begged my Dr! As I wanted to see if i’d benefit from the progesterone pessaries I have at home. I’d rather not take them if I have high enough levels, as the side effects are grim!

How ridiculous to test you for something and then be unable to interpret the results! Can you ask another doctor or GP? There must be charts available.

Mine didn't test my levels in early pregnancy as had already prescribed progesterone based on borderline/low results on a 21-day test (following an early miscarriage). He had me keep taking them for about 14 weeks as a precaution. I didn't have bad side effects through.

Levels look really good according to:

Agree it seems really bizarre that they’d agree to test for something when they have no idea how to interpret the results!

VillageFete · 01/08/2018 22:27

Thanks for that chart.

I think they just wanted me to go away, so agreed Grin I have an appointment at the early pregnancy unit on Friday so will take the results with me. When I was undergoing IVF I was put on progesterone, so I guess that’s playing on my mind. I get terrible wind off them Blush And become incredibly itritable and hormonal.
