Painful Braxton Hicks?

I am 30 weeks exactly and this morning I started getting what I assume are Braxton Hicks but now not so sure.

Having read online everywhere says that BH aren't painful or regular. These have definitely been painful and I have been having them every 5-10 minutes for the past 3 hours or so. It feels my whole bump is cramping and lasts for a good 1-2 minutes.

I assume I will just have to grin and bear these for the rest of my pregnancy?

Baby was going mad earlier (which also made them more uncomfortable) but seems to have settled down more now. Wish I could do the same as I am finding it hard to concentrate on work!

Peanut if they are regular they might not be BH - BH are not regular or painful! I think I'd phone your hospital if I were you as it could be labour - if it is there may be something they can do to stop it if you go in quickly!

They could still be BH but if they’re like that it can be a sign of a UTI so probably best to call your maternity unit, they will probably suggest you see the GP. Can also be a sign of dehydration so drink lots of water in the meantime.

I had terrible, very painful and regular, BH for the final 2 months of my pregnancy.
You should get it checked out, but it is not the case that BH aren't ever painful.

Thanks both for your replies.

@Purplestorm - I know that it is definitely not a UTI as I am prone to them and it feels absolutely nothing like one! I have also been drinking plenty of fluids aswell

Thanks @Whywontthiswork. I am just worried I will be wasting everyones time and potentially taking time off work unneccessarily.

I think I will give the midwife a call just in case

My midwife said if they become painful I should call, so definitely let your midwife know.

Just spoken to midwife. She has told me to go home, put my feet up, drink plenty of fluid, take some paracetemol and call back in a few hours or if things ramp up

@Peanut91 I'm 28 weeks and exactly the same! I've come home from work being so uncomfortable my midwife said exactly the same thing. So I'm just resting hopefully they ease off abit x

When I was 30 weeks I suffered from really uncomfortable Braxton Hicks one afternoon, to the point on the school run another Mum asked if I was in labour.
I thought it was just because I’d just moved house and had been scrubbing it top to bottom all day.
My waters broke that evening.
It’s better to be safe than sorry! If you feel like you need to go for monitoring, don’t let Them brush you off.

Peanut91 · 01/08/2018 15:17

Thanks guys. Been home a couple of hours and they seem to have eased off and are not so frequent now. Maybe it is just my body's way of telling me I have been doing too much? Had a really busy couple of weeks at work and been doing lots of overtime as we are so busy

I had these at 36 weeks. Was kept in hospital for 24 hours to check it wasn’t pre term labour. They came and went for the remainder of the pregnancy but didn’t panic me once I knew what they were. They were definitely made worse by over doing it and being too hot.

Peanut91 · 01/08/2018 22:17

Rang midwife back at 5pm as I was still getting cramps (was better and eased off when lying down). She suggested I went up to the hospital to be monitored.

Went and was monitored. Dr couldnt offer any suggestions except that I am not in early labour and just take some painkillers (which havent touched the pain) and come back if at all worried.

I am not usually a worrier but cant exactly say my mind has been put at ease.n
