Hi mums
This is my first pregnancy (unplanned but blessed) I have a trip planned from the up to LA and I'll be 8 weeks pregnant on the way there and 10 weeks when I'm back. I haven't had the heart to cancel. Has anyone traveled during these times? Can someone please advise or help me. I'm not sure what to do

I travelled to Florida and back at similar stage for my brothers wedding. Make sure you're covered by your travel insurance. My main problem was the morning sickness when on a long haul flight- not pleasant but manageable - no other problems though. This pregnancy o flew to Philadelphia at 29 weeks and back st 30 weeks and all I was recommended to do other than the insurance was to wear flight compression socks

leighdinglady · 01/08/2018 07:25

Why would you cancel?

Cherubfish · 01/08/2018 07:26

That should be fine, OP.

CherryPavlova · 01/08/2018 07:26

I can’t see being pregnant will make any difference at all.

thatgirl28 · 01/08/2018 07:28

Thanks everyone! I was just afraid of a risk of miscarriage (if any) or discomfort due to morning sickness! Morning sickness hasn't hit yet so I'm not sure what to expectConfused

You might not get morning sickness and statistically you’re unlikely to miscarry. Flying won’t make any difference.

SoyDora · 01/08/2018 07:55

Yes I flew loads in all 3 of my pregnancies, no issues. Not great if you have morning sickness (o had severe sickness this time) but stay hydrated and take snacks you know you can stomach.

Thanks so much for your replies! For those who did travel in the first trimester (with morning sickness ) did you find you enjoyed your holiday? Or were you sick the entire time

I travelled to Berlin from the UK (i realise this is not long haul) without realising I was 8 weeks pregnant with twins and everything was fine

Hi @thatgirl28!

I'm on a long haul flight on Sunday and am currently 5 weeks. Like you, I haven't had morning sickness yet but I'm also worried how I'd manage if it were to hit whilst travelling. I've ordered the pressure point wrist bands that people wear when they get travel sick so I'm hoping they might help. It's worth a try!

I was a little worried about if something was to go wrong, how would I cope being in a foreign country etc but I'm just going to try my very best and relax. It's our honeymoon after all and last time we'd get a holiday like this for a looong time!

I flew to Mauritius from the UK (12 hours) when I was 10 weeks and returned at 12 weeks.

All was fine. I had nausea and some food aversions but I would rather have them on a stunning sunny Mauritian beach / resort than in the UK during a rainy April!!

Go for it! Enjoy

leighdinglady · 01/08/2018 09:14

You can either have morning sickness on a sun lounger, or at your desk... I know where I would rather be Grin

I flew to Poland at 7 weeks pregnant with morning sickness. Late flight to Poland so wasn't bad as mine was mainly in the morning luckily. Threw up in a bag on the bus to Auschwitz (morning), threw up various times at the airport on the way home (morning flight), told the flight attendants and they gave me sick bags on the flight home lol. I will admit that the travelling about in the mornings didn't help but other than that it was manageable.

My main downside was not being able to drink vodka Envy

thatgirl28 · 01/08/2018 17:45

That gives me hope! Mine are also evening flights so hoping I sleep through most of it!

I was fine with first trimester holiday, just threw up on the plane on landing (keep a sick bag handy) and went to bed early each night but had an absolute blast. Just been to Greece too at 31 weeks and that was also fine:)

I flew to New Zealand at a similar gestation last year. I wore flight socks and walked around regularly on the plane - as the midwife advised. I didn’t have morning sickness and felt fine on the holiday. The only issues were that my appetite wasn’t great and I was very tired in the evening - but I would rather have felt like that on holiday than at home, and I’m sure jet lag contributed to the tiredness.
