I used a gym bag, my friend used a mini suit case :)

I'm taking the little wheely case I use for hand luggage. My pillow won't fit in it, but I'll probably want that in the car anyway.

amilosingitor · 31/07/2018 15:08

I'm taking a hold-all that I normally take as hand luggage from primary, black "leather" one and changing bag for baby

Passmethecrisps · 31/07/2018 15:10

I took a wheeled suitacase this time around.

Pittcuecothecookbook · 31/07/2018 15:10

Took the one I use for hand luggage on a plane. I don't think you need to buy a specific bag. Save your pennies for better things after the baby is here.

In reality there’s very little you need for and immediately the actual birth. So you could take a large handbag for that (change of clothes, Big pants, pads, snacks and toiletries) and then get your birth partner to take your used clothes back to the car after you’ve had a shower/cleaned up and bring in the bag with anything you need for a longer stay

I’ve packed a small rucksack style changing bag for baby and will pack a small rucksack for me. We’re planning a homebirth but will obviously have them by the door anyway, just in case.

In baby’s bag I have:
1 x all in one cloth nappy (easy for DH or midwife to put on immediately after birth and cute in pictures)
4 x nappy muslins
4 x Terry squares
3 x nappy wraps
2 x nappy nippas
(Enough for 9 nappies overall - which should last us the first 24 hours or so)
1 x wetbag for clean nappies
1 x wetbag for dirty nappies
15 x washable wipes
4 x general use muslins
4 x vests
2 x sleepsuits
2 x trousers
2 x socks
(Approx 4 outfits basically)
2 x hats

My bag isn’t packed yet because I’m being very casual 😬 but my list is basically:
5 x knickers
12 pack of biodegradable maternity pads
Nursing bra
2 x hidden support type vests
2 x nighty
Comfy trousers
Toothbrush
Toothpaste
Hairbrush
Hair ties
Soap/showergel
Sports bottle (easier to drink from in labour/whilst breastfeeding)
Cereal bars
Tuppaware with dried fruit, dark chocolate and nuts

I’m packing for a max of 24 hours. DH agrees that if we have to go in to hospital, he’s better off not staying overnight once I’ve had the baby (no proper bed for partners to sleep on and lots of other mums and babies on the ward - pointless us both being exhausted and miserable!) so any extras we need he or my parents can bring in.

I just used a weekend bag I already owned.

MinisterforCheekyFuckery · 31/07/2018 16:06

I'm just using an overnight case on wheels that I normally take as hand luggage on hols and a backpack style changing bag for baby's things.

NelleB · 31/07/2018 16:31

I have a medium sized wheeled case, the kind with two sides. One side for me, one side for baby. I have probably overpacked but I think I will end up being in for a few days due to my own health needs. My DP is amazing but hopeless when it comes to finding the right thing. I’ll be less anxious knowing it’s in the case whether I/baby need it or not .

Mousefunky · 31/07/2018 17:29

I’m taking my cabin sized case.

Ifeelshit · 31/07/2018 17:55

A bag you already have is best- they can get grubby in hospital.

This time I'm going to take 3 small ones- one for during, one for after and one for baby. Last time I took one big one and it made finding things difficult.

BertieBotts · 31/07/2018 17:58

I'm using one of those massive sturdy shopping bags. And then the baby's changing bag for their things.

strawberrry · 31/07/2018 18:00

I bought a small cheap suitcase from primark last year, hand luggage type size for £16. Was ideal as wasn't too big and could wheel it in/out without struggling with a big bag. Due another baby in a few weeks and using it again this year.

WhyBird2k · 31/07/2018 18:04

Gym bag, half for me and half for baby. Separate back for labour stuff that can just go in the car once baby is born. I read on an old thread about keeping a freezer bag sized bag with the very first baby things to hand to the midwife.

Stormblessed · 31/07/2018 18:36

I found it really useful to have separate bags for me and baby. Ended up having an emergency CS but was easy for DH to find everything when I was still out of it when DS came out of SCBU. I just used a gym bag and a PacaPod backpack.
