Different reactions from people when they find out you're having a boy instead of a girl

I am pregnant with a boy and I am absolutely over the moon (I would have been the same with a girl - I had no preference) however when people catch wind of the fact he's going to be a boy, theres almost a disappointment in their voice and so many people say 'are you happy it's a boy?' WTF, why wouldn't I be? I know they wouldn't have said 'are you happy its girl?'!

I have stopped telling people the sex but have already told a few close friends and colleagues, I just don't understand why people seem to be disappointed on my behalf that I'm having a son. Their reactions would definitely be different if I was having a girl.

Anyone experienced this?

Yep I'm having a boy and all people can say is well at least you'll have one of each

Doesn't help that I did actually want another girl and have struggled myself to get my head around being the mum of a boy and people's reactions just set me back again (please don't flame me!)

People are so flipping weird. We are having a girl and loads of people have been all “awww how lovely!” and in the next breath asked me if my DP is disappointed. No, after struggling for years and having IVF we couldn’t give two hoots about gender! And as if a man can’t cope with having a daughter or something. So bizarre. And rude! Congratulations on your pregnancy!

Had the total opposite. After 20-week scan with our second I started off telling people that we were expecting our second girl. But after a few disappointing responses (as if two girls would be a disappointment or an issue!) and a few "oh your poor husband with all those girls!" I have just stopped telling people and saying we don't know!
I think people will project their personal opinions onto everything. Don't for the love of anything tell them what names you're planning on using!!!
Congratulations by the way! Grin

That’s my experience too SpaceRangerSpace. When DD2 was born we had numerous people say things like ‘oh well, maybe a boy next time’, ‘urgh, imagine the teenage years’ etc. Now we’re expecting our third (a boy) people couldn’t be more excited!

Actually I have noticed this too! But it seems to be from women almost exclusively. Maybe something to do with perceptions of wanting the same gender as yourself? Men don't seem to make these comments (at least not to me)... except to tell my husband 'nice one Mate' when we tell them we're expecting a boy!

I had my MIL crying with disappointment
My aunt said 'oh how disappointing' to my mum.
A friends mum said 'what a shame - I mean they are lovely when they are young but they don't want to know you after about 13'
I got a card saying the phrase 'a sons a son blah blah' as the congratulation message. I hate that phrase so much
A friend said 'such a shame you wont get to be a real granny (this was on my second boy'

I presume people say equally stupid stuff to mums of girls all the time as well.

Some of these are terrible! I wonder if dads of daughters get the same stupid comments? I mentioned it to my friends over lunch today and they hadn't noticed (although one has no kids and one has a baby girl)

So strange!
I've got a DD and expecting our second... we don't know the sex and I'm glad I don't if these are the reactions!
My sister would like a boy as she has girl-boy and wants to be able to pass her son's stuff on too though Grin

Yes they do, DH gets it all the time. And now I’m pregnant with a boy ‘you must be absolutely delighted’ (to DH)

I didn't really get any negative reactions except from a woman at work who said 'I wanted you to have a little girl ' - just said if second DS was as awesome as his brother we'd be delighted.

Did get a few 'DH must be pleased' as if he could only relate to children the same sex as him Hmm
