Does the heartburn stop after birth?

Probably a stupid question.
Pretty much what it says in the title had a pretty easy pregnancy I think ( first timer so no comparison) but as I get nearer the end I am starting to get really fed up with the heartburn medication doesn't seem to work and it's keeping me up at night and messing with my diet. So please can anyone tell me if it will end when I give birt or could it linger for a while?

Definitely will stop after baby is born. Right now you’ve got a person squeezing all your internal organs into positions they should not be in!
Stick with!

Mine always cleared up pretty quick once baby was out so I was a bit emptier inside and the hormones had shifted.

But also, if it's that bad, go discuss with your GP. It was so bad in my first pregnancy I was on omeprazole for a bit which really helped. Have managed with heartburn liquid in later pregnancies

I was drinking gaviscon like it was water at some points of my pregnancy. The day after the birth I needed a few sips, but by day 2 I was fine. I did keep the bottle on my bedside table as I did need the odd sip during night feeds, however, that was down to me not eating/drinking enough.
Hope you are feeling better soon!

@Jessiejuju I'm in the same boat! Been awake all night with it so far! I had it from around 12 to 26 week then it slowed down but now at 33 week it's awful! Currently sat up in bed and laying down triggers it!!

Currently 36 weeks and woken with heartburn. I can't wait for it to go Blush

Stimmyplip · 31/07/2018 03:18

Nope. 5 years on and mine is so bad.

I slept with a bottle of gaviscon in my hand. Soon as DD was out, it cleared up.

It arrived immediately on conception and departed instantly after delivery for both heartburn pregnancies (my first one I had no heartburn).

My last two I was killed with it - never normally experience heartburn but this was constant. I sipped iced water to keep it under a bit of control but it was awful. The moment I delivered (c sections) it was gone.

Coincidentally the first pregnancy was a boy, the heartburn pregnancies were girls.

Stimmy would you consider asking your GP if there is another reason for it (sorry if you have already done this)

I feel for you OP. I can still remember the pain of the heartburn.

You might find it stops before you give birth. I suffered terribly with dd1 byt one morning I woke up and it had gone. My bump was slightly lower so everything had more room. Waddled when I walked but no heartburn!

Thesunrising · 31/07/2018 03:35

Mine cleared almost immediately along with the ever present low level nausea I experienced throughout pregnancy. Was replaced instantly with night sweats that lasted for a couple of months - joy!

WildCherryBlossom · 31/07/2018 03:37

I only had heartburn during one of my pregnancies - it disappeared as soon as I gave birth.

Jessiejuju · 31/07/2018 03:55

This is so good to hear. Have thought about going to the doctors but with less than a month to go and how long I would be waiting for an appointment don't really think it would be werth it.

Mine stopped immediately after birth, thankfully.

It stops instantly.
