Maternity swimwear

Can anyone give advice on what swimwear to buy? I'm now 13 weeks pg and only have a small bump but massive boobs so my normal suit and bikini don't fit. I need something for a holiday at the end of June, and also July and also September and I don't want to have to keep buying new stuff. I'm not sure whether to go for a tankini or a bikini. Maternity tankinis are massive on me at the moment, but I don't want to wear a bikini if I'm going to have stretch marks on display! Any advice?

I had a different dilemma. I was looking for something to swim lengths in twice a week, not for a holiday (ie didn't have to look good, but had to fit and be comfortable). I wanted a one-piece but couldn't get the length (my usual difficulty - I'm tall) so ended up getting a plain black tankini from H&M maternity for about £17. The top and bottoms are sold separately so this might be useful for you if you're bigger on top. It actually looks quite good and even though I don't have any stretchmarks (yet!) it's quite nice to have tummy coverage. And at least it was cheap and I think will last the whole pregnancy.

I have a tankini from blooming marvellous. It is really good as it can be adjusted according to bump size. I still wear it now actually and ds is 4.5 months! really should try find a nice normal one.....

I have this one and found it great as it has the 'secret support' panel up top and the ruching/ties at the bottom mean you can just let it out as you go along and need the extra room. Also have received lovely compliments whilst wearing it which helps!

Thanks everyone for pointing me in the direction of adjustable tankinis. Sounds like the answer. Tokentotty, that looks perfect and I could even wear it to the gym pool.

Honestly, have found it really comfy. Supportive enough for swimming and sunbathing if you want to slip the straps down without everything falling down !!

amidaiwish · 31/05/2007 13:49

i had that one too.
watch out for the sizing, i found the bottoms were very big so if you haven't put weight on around the bottom then you may need to go down a size or give yourself time to try on/return if necc.

tokentotty · 31/05/2007 13:53

Hahahahah when I got mine out of the packet and saw the size of the bottoms I was shocked too!! Still, they weren't falling down and even now at 30 weeks they're really comfortable so I'm pleased I stuck with them.

Tutter · 31/05/2007 13:53

mrswizz i have this and this, both in medium, worn for one holiday only

you'd be welcome to them (only have 7 weeks to go, don't plan on any more babies) - no charge

bambino1andbump · 31/05/2007 13:55

If mrswizz doesn't want them I will!!!

Isabella Oliver do nice swimwear, a tankini and a swimsuit.

SweetyDarling · 31/05/2007 14:28

I wouldn't have thought you would be likely to get stretch marks so early on would you? I find a bikini (buy top and bottom seperately) to be the best option.

Luxmum · 31/05/2007 14:36

Hello,
I wouldn't bank on getting stretch marks anyway, if you are lucky genes wise, and also take omega oils and moisturise, you shouldn't get any (fingers crossed). I didn't, except for a small one on my admittedly massive arse, but I just wore my usual string bikini all through the last pregnancy. (I didn't really care how massively odd my tummy looked in a bikini, as long as I could forget how heavy I was by floating in the water). For this one I bought a normal Monsoon bikini before I knew I was preggers, and am wearing it now,(at a very, very big 5 months) although unfortunately my boobs never grew to a nice lusious extent, so support was/is never an issue.. Good luck finding one that suits, and enjoy your holidays!

greedygreedyguzzler · 31/05/2007 17:01

so how supportive is that one from blooming marvelous? supportive enough for my 34ff's? i have bought 3 maternity swimsuits now and ended up taking them all back cos they dont support my massive saggy boobs!

tokentotty · 31/05/2007 17:53

Hmmmmmmmm...hard to say there love. am 36E and it was no problem but wouldn't like to make you a promise. They do have shops all over the place though - perhaps actually go to one and try it on ??

Mrswizz · 01/06/2007 16:09

I know its early for stretchmarks, but I'm thinking ahead and being pessimistic.

Thanks Tutter, but I've now sent off for at tankini. Hopefully it will fit.

Those do look nice though.

Mothercare do lovely tankinis but you can't get the blasted things on line and there are only a few in the shops available. There are a few swimsuits too. I feel your pain with the big boobs thing - mine are huge but I am reluctant to buy too much maternity wear. Primark do nice swimwear maybe you can buy a bigger size and you aint splashing out too much cash then either ? Your bump will catch up with your boobs at around 24 weeks trust me !!!

everexpandingtum · 17/06/2007 23:16

i got a nice non - pregnancy bikini in M&S for my holiday at 5 months. my boobs had grown to a stupid 38G and needed HEAPS of support (they are like granny boobs now. nice!). I found that the M&S bikinis offered support and also they sold the tops and bottoms in different sizes so my super-norks could be housed in a large top and my bottom in a nice normal size 12.

i just felt a bit more attractive in a 'normal' bikini. . little did i know that by 35 weeks i would look and feel like a whale ...!
