So ladies just need a bit if advice really. I am currently 13 weeks pregnant and have the most horrendous mor nine sickness can't keep anything down really. I'm on the anti sickness tablets but they don't seem to be helping. My biggest problem now is....I'm not sleeping due to the heat and feeling and being sick throughout the night and day and I'm really struggling at work. I work Friday saterday night's 12 and half hour night shifts and it's absolutely killing me. I'm currently sat in work now and all I want to do is throw up and sleep but I can't Sad

My doctors signed me off when I was about 12 weeks because I had some bleeding, could your doctor sign you off? I hope you feel better soon!! Xx

  1. Get back to the dr for a different treatment
  1. Get the dr to sign you off

Remember, pregnancy related sickness is legally treated different to normal sickness in terms of employment rights.

You have a lifetime of standing up for your child's rights ahead of you. It starts now by standing up for yourself!

You need to get signed off, you're not fit to work if you feel like that!

PeachesandPie · 28/07/2018 06:26

Get signed off! I pushed on and worked through sickness and made it so much worse. Night shifts won't be helping either. You will feel better with more rest.

Thanks ladies think I'm going to do that. I'm ment to be back in tonight but I'm gonna ask tram leader if she can get someone to cover me as I'm really struggling. Thankfully I'll be off work for 11 days after as I've got annual leave...so will see how I feel after that and if need be get the doc to sign me off for a bit

  1. Get signed off
  2. Rest
  3. Pop over to the Hyperemisis thread for wonderfully supportive advice re. Which meds to ask the doc for.

First, lots and lots of sympathy! I’ve had two Hyperemesis pregnancies, and they were the grimmest times of my life.

Are you managing to stay hydrated? That is the most important thing. When I was so sick and pregnant, I couldn’t keep down water, but I could just about manage ice lollies - only lemon ones though.

There are other anti sicknes meds you can try, which work in different ways. Have you been prescribed cyclizine? This is usually prescribed first, but there are others. Cyclizine tablets did nothing for me. Stemitil was better; Avomine made me even worse!
Can you go back to your GP and ask to try a different drug?

Does your employer know that you are pregnant? Once they know, they need to do a risk assessment, and put in place interventions to you and keep you safe (I’d say this includes hydrated).

If you need to call I sick, then you need to know that pregnancy related sick leave must be recorded separately to normal sick leave and cannot be used against you. This is law. I had 8 weeks off for nausea and vomiting in both pregnancies- spent a lot of that time in hospital being hydrated on a drip.

Lots of extremely good medical, legal and practical support at Pregnancy Sickness Support.

Good luck going forward.
