Hi all was just wondering if anybody has had their scan at Kings college.
I chose to have mine here because they said they looked into everything in a bit more depth.
So I just received my letter now and it’s explaining the procedure and on the letter of writes they will be measuring my cervix and the blood flow of my uterus ..
This has made me feel a little uncomfortable lol

Has anybody else had this done?

Yes they are very good
Why the worry?

MarshaBradyo · 26/07/2018 19:54

Both important measurements, didn’t realise other places didn’t do it

They are a centre of excellence for fetal medicine. You will be well looked after

Also they have the new centre which rivals private, so good

I’ve never had a doctor look down there before so it makes me feel a little queazy !

They were brilliant. For one think they tell you the nuchal scan results straight away, I've just had to wait over a week for mine elsewhere. They really are experts there.

The birth was another story but hey ho...

I think I had this measurements taken as part of my scan. They measure on the screen as they do with any other measurements.
I could be wrong though!

Twodogsandahooch · 26/07/2018 20:15

They won't be 'looking' down there. They will measure your cervix on the scan. I can't remember whether they use a dildo scan though

HungryN · 26/07/2018 22:54

They do a vaginal scan at 20 weeks. You can always say no to it but I would advise that you try to get over the uncomfortableness of it (though that might be easier said than done!).

It’s an important scan as it can help predict if your baby would be likely to be born premature.

Remember, they do these scans every day and it is nothing to them. You get covered in a blanket and to be honest, they were more concerned with my modesty than I was!

They will offer you an internal scan, and again at your anomaly scan. You can decline if you wish. They have been studying a apparent link between a shorter cervical length and an increased risk of premature delivery.

It is a world-class department and they really know their stuff. At our 22 week scan they told us DD’s sex (at our request!) by showing us her ovaries. It was extraordinary.

Yes I had mine there at 12w (I'm 18w now). The Harris Birthright centre is amazing, super high tech and the scan quality is amazing. My scan pictures are much better than any others i've seen) They don't print them though so make sure you take a camera/phone to get snaps. They have big screen tv set up so you can watch everything.

I only had an external abdominal scan and it took about 30-40 mins as they are very detailed in looking at everything. As someone else said, the bonus is that you get your chromosome risks there and then as they have an on site lab where they analyse the bloods they take that day so no waiting for results in the post. Although my NT measurement was low when the combined it with the bloods my risk was 1:484. This is classed as low risk but because they are so big on research, if your results are less than 1:500 they automatically do the harmony test (you can opt out as it is research only). I had to wait 2 weeks for my results but they went from 1:484 to less than 1:10,000. Privately the test costs around £400 so i was pleased I had it when I didn't really need it.
