Jobs during pregnancy

I'm hoping to get some advice on work/jobs. Until recently I was a teacher of 6 years. However, upon disclosure of my ongoing fertility treatment I was put under a lot of pressure in my role and felt no option but to leave. My fertility treatment was due to ramp up and I knew the pressure within school/lack of support from Headteacher/stress and bullying that I would continue to experience would only hinder my chances of conception success. I'm pleased to say that treatment worked and thankfully I am now 12 weeks pregnant and doing well. Since then I have tried to obtain temporary admin work (was reluctant to step back into the class room as a supply teacher due to those difficult experiences). However, I live in North Yorkshire and unfortunately work has been few and far between during the summer months. I'm ready to try supply teaching in the autumn term but wondered whether anyone could suggest ideas as to employment options during my pregnant months until I find teaching work. I'm due in February, feel fine - very little nausea and very much want and financially need to work. I have signed up to agencies in my town and neighbouring towns but there just does not seem to be much temp work around. Any suggestions would be really appreciated - TIA!

Hey you sound just like me!! Infertility and teaching sooooo don't mix!!!

I got a very part time job through the north York's county council website. Lots of ta jobs and the like. But again, many things f those are term time.

Mostly I wanted to say hi!! I'm 8 weeks tomorrow after successful ivf. Was put on gardening leave Feb half term and resigned for Easter.

Wow @physicskate . Same here re gardening leave Feb half term /resigning for Easter - incredible! And you're totally right re infertility and teaching not mixing. It's comforting to know it's not just me, though sad that a career that is so child focused is not supportive when it comes to teachers struggling to create their own families. Congratulations on your pregnancy! I had ovulation induction with injections and regular clinic scans throughout Feb/March and April and I don't think I would be pregnant now if I was still teaching there - too stressful and demanding, so I guess it worked out in the end though it was really horrible to go through at the time.

It was really difficult - if I had bad news (and it was only ever bad news), I then had to go in and be my best self. Behaviour for some classes would deteriorate when I had a tracked cycle, or lots of appointments/scans. It just wasn't possible for me to compartmentalise enough...

And then the parental complaints started about how I wasn't doing enough for their child. I deserved better and so did the kids. Best decision I've ever made!!

The worst was when a miscarriage started in the middle of a lesson...

I might go back to teaching (physics) but I'm glad I've got this little job to give me space to figure out what to do after...

That sounds really tough, sounds like you've been through the mill. I'm glad you've found a position that works for you. Hope I manage the same. Wishing you a happy and healthy rest of pregnancy. I'm sure not being stressed to the eyeballs will help the both of us!
