I wondered if this had happened to anyone before, it's not yet happened to me but everyone keeps mentioning it so want to know how common it is, I'm 32 plus 4 with my first and his head has been very low down since 28 week, people keep saying they think I'm much further a long than 32 plus 4, I went to MAC yesterday for reduced movements and was told I needed a growth scan as it might be because he's too big and hes running out of room to stretch properly, so has anyone else had their dates wrong? Is it even a thing or if he came in next few week would he be classed as a prem baby? Hope that makes sense!

I am in a similar situation, I am currently 31weeks pregnant with my second child. My 12 week scan put my due date as 24th September but for several reasons I believe this is about 2 weeks too early.

I am now having fortnightly scans as they say she is measuring small, although everything else is fine they are talking about delivering at 37weeks. However if my dates are correct her size would be within normal range.

If everything else is fine I am likely to try and hold doctors off and keep her growing in my belly for a little longer than 37weeks.

They have said the dating scan can be out a little but I am not sure by how much.

Hope this helps a little, although I know you have the opposite issue. The doctors will stick to the original dates so if he is early he will be classed as a perm baby although anything after 37weeks is seen as full term.

Oh gosh that must be awful, especially if they are considering delivery early due to small measurements, i suppose I'm lucky in the sense that I think I'm over so if he did come 'early' he would be fine! I have my scan this afternoon to see how big he is so hopefully get some answers!

If it's family and friends saying they think you are much further along because of your size or something, then to be honest I wouldn't pay them much attention. It's really hard to gauge how pregnant someone is by looking at them.

The dating they do at 12 week scans is pretty accurate, maybe not to the day, but it certainly shouldn't be weeks out. There are reasons why your baby might be bigger that don't relate to your dates, or the growth scan might show that your baby is about the right size.

If he comes before 37 weeks, he will be classed as a prem baby.

My dates were wrong.
There’s only 2 days where I could have got pregnant with my second as they were the only days my husband was in the country!
Scan date estimated baby to be a week behind that - which is physically impossible. Like some Virgin Mary emasculate conception Hmm
Growth scans consistently measured DS as being very small - fundal height was on a downward curve etc, was told to expect him to be between 4.5 and 5lbs if he came at full term.
He was born at 36+0 (my dates) perfectly healthy and a whopping 6lb 9oz Hmm

It is very hard to date to the day. Sperm can last up to seven days post-ejaculation so you cannot be sure which day fertilisation occurred. The 12-week scan is therefore usually seen as the most accurate measure of growth.

mumofmunchkin · 26/07/2018 13:59

Mybreadiseggy sperm can live 5-7 days, so you could have had sex but ovulated almost a week later, and got pregnant then. Conception would have occurred a week after you had sex, making it seem like the dates were out.

MyBreadIsEggy · 26/07/2018 16:33

mumof even so from the EDD I was given, even if I went by the fact that sperm can survive for a week, would still mean that I would have had to have sex the week before my DH was home in order for me to be that pregnant Confused

DuggeeHugs · 26/07/2018 16:49

Could that be due to the two weeks they always add on at the beginning between af and ovulation when you're not actually pregnant?

MyBreadIsEggy · 26/07/2018 17:20

Duggee not sure! I got pregnant without having a period after I had the implant taken out! All I know is DH and I dtd one day that month as it was the only day he was home, so conception could have been up to a week after that, but physically impossible for it to have been before that. The EDD I was given from my 12 week scan would mean that the sex should have taken place up to a week and a bit before DH was even in the country!

DuggeeHugs · 26/07/2018 17:30

MyBread sounds like that's it then if you counted back to week zero from your EDD - the dates tally with when your period and ovulation would have been had you had visible sign of them.

It really confused me first time as I don't have a cycle, so my scan date EDD was 27 days out from my period EDD. The scan date was correct.

They changed the dates of my friend who had IVF... Was slightly strange given that she knows the exact dates the baby was conceived!!
