I have incredibly itchy feet and toes, I have a blood test tomorrow to see if I have OC, but I'm worrying now in case it's something silly like athletes foot😂
My wrists and palm of hands have been itchy too but have stopped. Any ideas?

This was me in my pregnancy too. Hands and feet but nowhere else. Docs didn't think it was OC at first cause mine started so early (around 15 weeks) and they said it usually doesn't appear til later. But liver tests all showed high levels and proved it was. I literally had holes in my feet and ankles I was clawing at them so much. My liver tests then went completely back to normal and it disappeared at about 36 weeks and DS was born (induced for other reasons) at 39 weeks. Good luck with your tests Thanks

Bibijayne · 26/07/2018 07:13

Good luck with your tests! Always better to be safe than sorry!

Nearly 34 weeks ATM. At 30 weeks I woke up a bit nauseous and had been a bit itchy. Baby was slightly quiet. Went to the obstetric unit (Sunday) baby woke up straight away on the CTG. I figured I'd just been a bit anxious. Blood tests came back showing high ALT and bile acid levels and I was admitted for five days. Now being treated for (probably) obstetric cholestasis and will have baby around 37 weeks.

You're never silly for asking to be checked up.

The midwives and doctors have told me this time and time again. Call me if my mum senses start tingling. They'd rather check me and all be okay than have me stay at home.

I've also been told to never just wait for an appointment if I'm concerned - and I'm on bloods and obs every other day at the moment.

Longsleepneeded · 26/07/2018 07:19

Had this with both mine from 30 weeks, hospital tested me every week and I had a liver scan the first time. Both born at 38 weeks by caesarean, no problems at all. The itching is annoying, but cool showers helped me, and ranting at my dh!! Good luck

BobblyBits · 26/07/2018 07:21

I had very mild itching. But because of something a friend told me I thought I better get this checked and turned out at 37 weeks I had ALT levels through the roof! I was told I could go home get my bag and then I was admitted for my induction. Baby 2 they kept an eye and I had high ALT levels fairly early on they gave me some medicine and I was induced at 38 weeks.

mariemalade · 26/07/2018 07:25

@Bibijayne Hi, Can I ask why you were admitted for 5 days?

I'm currently 33 weeks pregnant with OC and I'm being monitored with CTGs and blood tests twice a week. I think I'll be going for a c section at 37 weeks.

Bibijayne · 26/07/2018 09:14

@mariemalade

Because the levels kept spiking and even with meds the ALT were very high. I also started getting billiary spasms. I had a liver scan and an MRI. My amylase levels briefly went very high too (40 to 300 to 40). They wanted to rule out other stuff.

I went home the Thursday afternoon. But was back in for another 5 days the following Monday as my ALTs had jumped even higher (they were 760 on the Monday). I'm currently on blood tests and obs every other day. I'm on Urso, which has helped a bit. Recent results were ALT 295 and bile acids 23. Both higher than ideal but less scary than they have been. I've also had my portol vein and common bile duct scanned.

They're loosely working on OC - but they're not entirely certain as I don't quite fit (or rather my responses to treatment don't quite fit). No gallstones and gallbladder looks good - despite some symptoms indicating gallbladder issues. My bile duct is very inflamed. I'm on a sort of not quite bedrest, but not really able to do anything. I have a mini pharmacy I carry with me :/

Have been tested for absolutely every liver disease (all clear) and auto-immune condition (all clear). I have insulin and Metformin for gestational diabetes too.

I also ended up losing a fair bit of weight. Had gained 10lbs over pregnancy (by week 24). Have lost those and an additional 15lbs.

mariemalade · 26/07/2018 13:26

@Bibijayne that's dreadful, I hope you're getting a chance to rest. I'm nearly 34 weeks too, but my bile acids were only 13.4, AST/ALT in the 80s. At least you are being monitored closely.

Bibijayne · 26/07/2018 15:34

I think I've met all the midwives now! So that's a plus :) lots of friendly faces!

Hopefully it comes down and settles. My worry is how likely this is to reoccur if we want more children (this is baby one and hubbie and I originally thought two or three...) But at least I'm getting amazing care! The NHS is pretty awesome.

YearOfYouRemember · 26/07/2018 15:35

I probably had OC with dc1 but not the rest so you will be okay.

Bibijayne · 26/07/2018 16:28

@YearOfYouRemember I hope so! It's been pretty hairy for both hubbie and I the last few weeks.

YearOfYouRemember · 26/07/2018 16:41

Keep a very close eye on movements. We didn't have good care and it's only through one brilliant midwife and luck that dc 1 made it.

mamaandthegirls · 26/07/2018 18:25

Has been confirmed I have OC ladies.
Levels only at 14 at the moment but they're going to keep an eye on them every week with weekly blood tests.
If they don't go up, will I be able to make it to 40 weeks?

OP posts:
Bibijayne · 26/07/2018 18:45

@mamaandthegirls they usually will want to induce you by 38 weeks. Risk levels for you and baby go up after that.

Bibijayne · 26/07/2018 18:47

Thanks @YearOfYouRemember - I'm on CTG monitoring and bloods every other day at the moment. Been advised to go in straight away if movements reduce at all

mamaandthegirls · 26/07/2018 18:52

@Bibijayne will they induce even if levels stay low?

OP posts:
YearOfYouRemember · 26/07/2018 18:54

If movements change you must go in. It's not just about lessening.

Itchytights · 26/07/2018 19:24

Had this from 28 weeks with my eldest.

Was monitored three times a week. Had liver scans and had a failed induction at 37 weeks resulting in an EMCS as bile acids/ ALT levels through the roof.

The beautiful seven year old is now sitting next to me Smile

Itchytights · 26/07/2018 19:25

Don’t worry about getting to 40 weeks.
Full term is considered anything from 37 weeks.
Monitor movements closely and any changes go straight in.
Good luck.

Bibijayne · 26/07/2018 20:15

So hard to tell @YearOfYouRemember never had a recognisable pattern. Always checking though! Fortunately baby boy looks great on all the scans and traces!

YearOfYouRemember · 26/07/2018 20:17

Bibs it's just if there are less movements, do the count to ten plan, or more frantic ones as both could mean a problem.

YearOfYouRemember · 26/07/2018 20:18

Bibi

Blinking auto correct!

Bibijayne · 26/07/2018 20:29

Thanks! I'll try that :)

thetigerthatcamefortea · 26/07/2018 20:43

I had OC with both my babies. The 2nd pregnancy it started at 12 weeks. They obviously didn’t believe me but they took blood and called me at 10pm at home as I was on my way to bed to say get to hospital!!!
Get in a bath with bi carb in it. I found it took the itch away enough to get to sleep and then would wake again in the very early hours and would have another bath and go back to sleep at about 2am

YearOfYouRemember · 27/07/2018 19:07

It's not just if there are less...
